TeamHalfwayThere

TeamHalfwayThere Adventure Racing, not obstacle coursing! Many of our members proudly don uniforms and are often deployed across the world. We run. We bike. We paddle. We navigate.

Teamhalfwaythere.com is a Northern Virginia/Washington DC based Adventure Racing team that draws on a strong and diverse foundation of military service-members, government professionals, avid athletes, and a few weekend warriors. All of us balance training, working, racing, and the costs associated with these addictive hobbies. We take advantage of our individual and collective backgrounds, focusing on effective communication and solid decision-making to overcome the challenges encountered during adventure racing. Our not-so-secret weapon is a strong, collective sense-of-humor that buoys us in our training and races. We have also been known to support charitable causes, though please don’t let that word get out or people will start to think we’re nice…

Teamhalfwaythere.com was founded by the rabidly-passionate, Mr. Shane Hagerman and debuted in the 2007 season at the Hampton Road Adventures’ Tidewater Traverse Adventure Race. Through many tribulations, by the end of that season, we had our first taste of the podium. We learned a lot in that first year of racing and built upon it by adding solid winter training and recruiting some stellar racers with ties to the local mountain-biking community. In subsequent years we have grown the team, established our own website (TeamHalfwayThere.com), a page, supported and held clinics with our most-excellent bike store: Spokes, Etc. of the Northern, VA area–The Best Wheels Goin’ Around! We support local and national organizations such as WABA, MORE, and IMBA. We faithfully host a weekly Tuesday night ride/run at our beloved local Wakefield Park (in Annandale, VA, just outside the Beltway) and almost every weekend we host informal training activities in local and regional parks. You may see our jerseys on the podiums…podia?…of multiple MTB, trail running and orienteering events. We have also made the leap to the premiere coed class for adventure races, often fielding two competitive teams. Each year, we have crept up in the national standings for the United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA) and the Checkpoint Tracker Adventure Racing series. In 2012, at the USARA National Championship in the Catskills of NY, we were honored as the #4 adventure racing team in the country. We also earned #4 in the Checkpoint Tracker series. Our sights are set higher in years to come…

When we are not racing or training, we have real jobs like most folks–jobs that take the majority of our time. We balance our time between family commitments, professional obligations, and a burning desire to compete in adventure racing and its related disciplines. Thank YOU for taking the time to visit our page and please like us and join any of our training events…or better yet, invite us to yours! We have fun in the woods like a bunch of kids riding bikes. Come play with us!

We’re getting the band back together…at least some of it. Tomorrow, Charlie Roberts, Jennifer Moos and I (members of the old Odyssey Adventure Racing team) will be toeing the line at the 12 hour Blue Ridge Adventure Race (Warrior Races). I’m super stoked to be racing alongside of both of them - I think our first race together was 14 or 15 years ago! Follow along
