We're just one week out from our Season Opener with our fall guest artist, Hannah Victoria! She is bringing her company, the Good Works Dance Theatre, to perform her original work, "Joy in the City." ❤️
"Joy in the City is a vibrant evening-length dance work by choreographer Hannah Victoria, performed by Good Works Dance Theatre, that celebrates joy as a powerful force in the lives of Black women. Blending contemporary movement with influences from the African diaspora, the work explores play, laughter, rest, and collective celebration as expressions of freedom.
At the center of the evening is “…oil of joy,” an ensemble piece that anchors the performance while asking a simple yet powerful question: When do Black women get to play, create, be, laugh, and dance?
Inspired by the scripture declaring “there was great joy in that city,” the work embraces the “city" as a place, the collective community of Black women, and the body itself, spaces where joy resides. Joy in the City invites audiences to witness this joy in motion."
