Temple Was One Expensive Weekend 😅🏁

We’re a little late getting this Temple race update out, but sometimes life gets in the way! Better late than never, so here’s how the weekend went.

We headed to Temple on Thursday, August 6th, with both the blue car and the Split Bumper loaded up and ready to go into battle.

Friday night, we jumped into the Xtreme Little Hitters class with the blue car — a 4.80 index class. We didn’t have any data for a 4.80, so we made our one qualifying hit and went straight into eliminations. We ended up working our way all the way to the finals, which didn’t roll around until about 2 AM.

Unfortunately, right after I left the starting line in the final, the transmission decided it had enough and exploded about 30 feet out. 😳 It was definitely disappointing to have it break in the finals, but looking at the bright side, we’d much rather have it happen then than at the Old School Backhalf race at XRP in Ferris this weekend.

In between rounds of the Little Hitters class, we also made a very fast hit with the Split Bumper and we were looking forward to getting more laps on it in the Run What You Brung class.

With the blue car down and not knowing what the car count was going to look like for RWYB, we decided to load everything up and head home. We left the track around 4 AM and made it home about 5:30 AM — only to find out that we had a blowout on the trailer somewhere between Bellmead and home. 🤦‍♂️

After getting a little sleep Saturday, we went to unload the blue car and found another problem. The transmission had locked up and would only roll forward so we couldn’t even roll the car out of the trailer. We ended up having to pull the driveshaft out of the car while the car was still in the trailer just to get it out.

Once we finally got the car out, we pulled the transmission out and on Sunday we hauled it over to Mr. Wendell. I can’t thank him enough for taking it in and getting us back into the action as fast as he did. After tearing it apart, he found that the planetary had exploded inside the transmission — and let’s just say that one definitely hurt the pocketbook. 🫠

All in all, it was one very expensive weekend, but we got everything fixed, put back together, and ready to go just in time for this weekend’s race!

None of this would be possible without the incredible people we have in our corner. Having great people around us is what allows us to chase this dream, keep pushing forward, and get back to the track when things don’t go according to plan.

Now it’s time to put Temple behind us and see what the blue car can do at Old School Backhalf at XRP! 🔥

A week late, but here’s a recap from last weekend’s race.

C-Town rolled into the Nitro Dave’s Clash of the Titans in Ennis, Texas, ready to go to battle. We had two cars entered in the 4.50ish class—the Split Bumper and the Red ’69.

The highly anticipated 4.45 chip was finally drawn as the index cap, and everything was going according to plan… until the inevitable happened.

In the third round, Rusty and Ryan drew each other. It was time for some C-Town on C-Town crime, and we all knew it was bound to happen eventually.

Going into the race, we knew it was going to be a side-by-side battle from the hit to the finish line. Both cars staged, and Ryan got the advantage on the tree with the better reaction time. From there, it was a door-to-door race all the way to the stripe, where Ryan came out on top.

Ryan stayed on a roll through the remaining rounds and drove his way into the winner’s circle. Red carpet winner’s circle photos don’t come around very often, so it made the victory that much sweeter.

Ryan brought home the win, the Happy Gilmore check, a Titans helmet, and some cash to top it all off.

Congratulations to Ryan on a well-deserved victory! C-Town is proud of you, and we’re looking forward to the next one. 🏁🏆

One of the funniest moments of the weekend happened right before Rusty and Ryan had to race each other. As they were getting ready to fire the cars up, Ryan sent Rusty a simple text:

“Good luck, buddy.”

Well, last weekend at XRP didn’t go as planned.

Friday night started off great. We made two test hits, and the car was dialed in right off the trailer, going 5.008 on the first pass and backing it up a few hours later with a 4.998.

Unfortunately, things took a turn on Saturday. During my burnout for first round, the throttle pedal felt a little strange. After the burnout, the car was idling around 1,700 RPM in gear and nearly 2,700 RPM in neutral. We couldn't figure out what was going on while on the track.

Once we started looking everything over, we found the culprit—the front throttle body linkage had broken. Since the TPS sensor is mounted on the rear throttle body, I still had throttle control, but the vacuum from the engine was pulling the front throttle blades slightly open because they were no longer connected to the pedal. That extra air caused the engine to run lean, which explains the unusually high idle. The data from the 02’s verified this by reading a super lean ratio at idle.

It's definitely disappointing that it happened in the first round instead of on Friday night when we could've fixed it. That's racing, though. We'll get it fixed and be ready for the next race!

We are going to take a few weeks off from racing and then we will be back it July 17th-18th for the Clash of the Titans at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis! 🏁

Well, as my dad always says, sometimes you're the bug, and sometimes you're the windshield. Unfortunately, we came up a little short this weekend in a tight race, but that's part of it.

We'll get it loaded back up and be back at XRP next weekend for some Old School Back Half action. Time to regroup and get after it again! 💪🏁
