Blake's update on Midwest Thunder at Kokomo!
2 really great and one pretty bad...
The positives! Light World Formula (A Main video linked here β¬οΈ)! A MWT career high finish of 4th! With zero base set up for this car, Peter and Blake worked so hard to get this car good- we didn't throw the kitchen sink at it, we threw a dang bathtub at it, and by the 1:15am feature, it was awesome! Not too shabby for this mom and pop team with used tires :)
Sr Animal- P7 to P3 in the B Main, P9 to P5 in the A Main! (season high for MWT in this car!! He passed a lot of cars on Sunday!!
The bad...Blake's Lt 160 has been amazing this year! Unfortunately in the heat he got run over and had a flat. Car was never the same (thank you literally half of the field's dads got him back out there!!). In the B Main, he had a starting spot of 10th. Ugh. We were confident after an afternoon of repairs on this car that Blake had a good shot at transferring out of it. Well...he wasn't ever given that chance. Car would not fire off. Into the pits he went with an army of dads to get it rolling. They were in the pits maybe 10 seconds before they got it to fire off, but the RD said nope. Courtesy laps were not feeling very courtesy-ey for us. That ended his amazing A main streak in that car and has dropped him hard in points. Racing certainly has a way of humbling you real quick!
Late night LWF MWT A Main
Blake starts 5th in the LWF A Main at 1:15am at Kokomo QMC Midwest ...

πCOLE'S BEST SATURDAY EVER π
Cole had his first career Jr Honda heat and feature win on Saturday...in a HUGE way...doing it at Midwest Thunder .25 Quarter Midget Racing Series leading EVERY SINGLE LAP of his heat and the A Main in a stacked Jr Honda 21 car field.
Cole debuted a new to him (aka Blake's hand me down) X Wing car and a borrowed motor. Jr Honda has been frustrating to say the least this season, with Cole coming into the weekend 14th in points. We figured, why not?! Let's see if its the kid or the car. Safe to say...definitely wasn't the kid! Cole handled this tricky track like a seasoned veteran and drove the heck out of that car at a place that is a true drivers track. He passed clean and had more confidence driving than we have ever seen from him...and should we mention, the youngest kid in that A Main that didn't roll out until 10:45pm??!
Our family has been racing the Midwest Thunder Series since 2020. A podium finish is hard to come by and a win is something most of the kids will only ever dream of.... somehow a dream is now reality in our household!
What made this even more special is our AMAZING race family. The crowd went crazy as Cole got that checkered flag, especially Cole's big brother racer friends (video to come soon from Blake's POV!!). The amount of hugs, texts and kind words have meant the absolute world to us! We cannot thank everyone enough who is in our corner, cheering Blake and Cole on every weekend. Racing has brought so many amazing people into our lives- we are truely blessed to be a part of this community!
It was a FANTASTIC weekend for our Junior friends as well..congratulations to fellow first time MWT winners Kinsley and Kam!!!!! ππ
We could not have done this without Ultimate QM and the BRE on loan from The Real Diehl Fan Club !
This win also is one for dad! Peter got to attend his first full Midwest Thunder race this weekend for the year (a PERFECT time to not have to work during this one!). He spent 9 hours straight getting the X Wing together last weekend that had been previously piece parted into the other cars. A quick 5 hour round trip Thursday to get it safety checked in Lansing (TY McCravey's for dropping everything to help us get this checked in time!) and a few laps around CQMA to make sure it was put together correctly and the rest is history π

Kokomo club race weekend recap!
Saturday
Cole Jr Honda
Finished 2nd in his heat putting him starting 4th in the feature out of 10. Cole had phenomenal starts all weekend and quickly tucked down into 4th at the start of the feature. He was running in the lead pack in 3rd looking fantastic! Unfortunately he was spun by the car behind him, then another car came around the corner and plowed into him so hard the other car flipped! It was a messy, red flag filled race. Instead of trying to get him fixed in the pits, dad pulled him out of the race. Only 4 cars ended up finishing the race, so even though he was definitely a car that could make the podium, it was the right decision for us to pull him out and avoid further destruction and injury. Those junior classes...π΅βπ«
Blake
Lt 160
This was a great group to pre race with. Mostly MWT drivers who make A Mains. This made for some great racing!
Heat P4
Feature P2 π₯
LWF
With no notes for on set ups for this car, this weekend was all about trying things out ahead of MWT. Car was alot better in the feature than the heat. Blake came away with a 3rd place finish in the feature that didnt roll till 11pm π΄ π₯
Sunday
Animal day for both drivers. With the very short time to sleep, we opted to sleep a bit more and not practice in the morning. Probably not the best decision based on how the cars handled, but this weekend was all about practice (and we needed at least 6 hours of sleep π)
We threw a lot at these cars all day and have more room to get them better for MWT- which is great!!
Cole managed a 3rd place finish in Jr Animal π₯
Blake finished P4 in Sr Animal
Overall, a blazing hot weekend and not a lot of sleep, but worth it for the laps and notes going into the next big regional race there! We so appreciated the hospitality from the Kokomo club members and the invitation to their potluck (now that Blake and Cole have had Grillo's Pickles, they'll never go back to regular pickles π)!
Thank you to BRE and Ultimate QM !

Kalamazoo Nationals Recap!
Taking a positive spin on this because we spent a ton of money and time to be here, and going to preserve the good memories!
β‘οΈ Little Kalamazoo Speedway Quarter Midget Club knocked it out of the park, hosting a national race!
β‘οΈ Being there to see friends win their first national race: Grayson, Bryce, Oliver, Weston- so, so proud! Kinsley getting a jr honda podium was also amazing! Congratulations!!
β‘οΈ The best race family in the world, this weekend especially with some broken cars: going to miss some folks, but a special shout out to Ozzymoto Sports for swooping in and putting Blake's car back together and Myles helping Cole thru tech when he and Blake were back to back races. Bob, Tony and Matt for seeing from afar Cole was going to need to pit for repairs and swooping in and saving his race! Hugs, donuts, lifting cars..so many people who are our family who help our little team, especially when dad isnt there!
β‘οΈ Blake the mechanic. Wow, Blake stepped up SO much this weekend. He was involved in the repair of his car and did work on it on his own. Without hesitation when we decided to go locked on Cole's car for Saturday's cold forecast, Blake pulled off the ratchet and he and Barry got it re set up (thank you Matt Osborne for your watchful eye too!) Blake even had air pressures ready to go for Cole's Saturday race. Every race without dad there, Blake does the important stuff to get the trailer packed. That boy knows his way around ratcheting cars in! As always, this is so much more than a kid driving a race car...
β‘οΈ Carson Hocevar was the best grand marshal! He is such a great person- he spent so much time at the track, signing whatever anyone wanted signed, hanging out with the kids and even flagging a race. He talked to Blake after his extremely unfortunate race and made Blake feel like he wasnt alone with crazy crap happening out of his control during a race. Forever fans of #77 in this home!
β‘οΈ Blake and Cole can wheel broken cars. Neither spun out and they held their lines with cars that should not have been easily drivable. Blake's car was VERY fast on the few laps it was undamaged π«£
β‘οΈ PSA for roof nets- Cole had a car on top of his car during one of the many wrecks (he said he could feel the heat of the other car's muffler om his arm inside his roll cage π¬) That roof net went a long way for his safety!
We have had alot of questions on what the heck went on in the pits during Blake's race. Send mom a message if you want the story- its a wild one (that didnt end well for Blake!) π
Back to the flat track life and shifting our focus towards getting 5 cars ready for Kokomo!
