Summer brings longer days, warmer temperatures and often a little more heat in our bodies and minds.

In Ayurveda, we don’t try to eliminate that fire, rather we learn how to work with it.

These practices can be helpful to cultivate more balance throughout the season. They’re not meant to be about perfection (and as a fellow pitta i know that can be a struggle, lol), they are small ways to be more responsive to your body.

If this sparks your interest, I’d love for you to join me this Sunday at Yoga Studio Satya for my next Embodying Ayurveda workshop ‘Too Hot to Handle’. We’ll dive into seasonal living, reflection and breathwork so that you’ll leave feeling cooler, more balanced and nourished all summer long!

Summer is the season of the pitta dosha- the energetic principle of heat, transformation and focus in Ayurveda.

Ways to recognize when perhaps your pitta is a little aggravated….

🔥 feeling burnout
🔥red, irritated or flushed skin
🔥heart burn or acidity
🔥 irritable, angry or road ragey
🔥 perfectionistic

Ways to keep your cool (besides heading to Fir Island in WA):

💦cooling breathwork like Chandra pranayama (left nostril breathing)
💦sipping on coconut water
💦 cooking with fennel, mint, coriander and dill
💦 restorative yoga
💦swimming

The goal isn’t to quash the fire (this is why I don’t have ice water or ice cream in the list- those can kill your digestion!)… the goal is to understand how to tend to the fire accordingly.

And if you’re feeling too hot to handle, I’ve got an upcoming workshop on this topic at Yoga Studio Satya on 7/12 where we’ll dive deeper into the topic!

What if the goal isn’t to stay the same all year long?

We often expect ourselves to maintain the same routine, workouts, work schedule, sleep, social life etc. but nature is constantly changing and our bodies are responding to those changes whether we notice them or not.

Perhaps balance isn’t found in doing the exact same thing year around. Perhaps balance is found in learning when to adapt.

Have you noticed your energy shift with the seasons?
