Thunderwolves Defeats Braves On Back Of Clutch Display From Don Brooks

Don Brooks drove in six runs on five hits to lead Thunderwolves past Braves 18-12 on Sunday at CHC Field ( #4). Brooks doubled in the fourth scoring two, singled in the fifth scoring two, and singled in the sixth scoring two.

Thunderwolves collected 25 hits and Braves had 15 in the high-scoring affair.

Braves scored 12 runs on two hits in the bottom of the first inning. And Joseph Somosky singled, scoring one run.

Thunderwolves added one run in the second. James Broome singled, making the score 18-12.

A double play extended the Thunderwolves lead to 2-1 in the top of the third inning.

Braves scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Jeff Scully singled, scoring one run, Somosky grounded out, scoring one run, Jeremy Baca doubled, scoring two runs, and Tyler Shull drew a walk, scoring one run.

Thunderwolves scored six runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth inning. Broome singled, scoring one run, Brooks doubled, scoring two runs, Oliver Gonzalez singled, scoring two runs, and Matt Levine doubled, scoring one run.

Thunderwolves scored five runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth inning. Brooks singled, scoring two runs, Gonzalez singled, scoring one run, Jeremy Calahan singled, scoring one run, and Ramon Gerardo singled, scoring one run.

Thunderwolves scored five runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Santos Ortiz singled, scoring two runs, Brooks singled, scoring two runs, and Gonzalez singled, scoring one run.

Levine earned the win for Thunderwolves. The reliever allowed eight hits and seven runs (five earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking four. Gonzalez began the game for Thunderwolves. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run over two innings, striking out none and walking none. Steve Smith collected the save.

Thunderwolves collected 25 hits in the game. Gerardo, Calahan, Broome, Levine, Ortiz, and Gonzalez each collected multiple hits for Thunderwolves. Brooks stole six bases. Thunderwolves stole 10 bases in the game.

Braves piled up 15 hits in the game. Baca drove the middle of the lineup, leading Braves with four runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Michael Stein led Braves with three hits in four at bats. Joe Victoria, Somosky, Scully, and Bryne Dytri each collected multiple hits for Braves. Braves turned two double plays in the game.

Thunderwolves welcome Wildthings on Sunday for their next game.

The Thunderwolves pulled off an exciting win today. With Don Brooks executing a perfect su***de squeeze in the bottom of the 7th. Brett Murphy was on third win 1 out and the score was tied. Brooks came up and laid down a perfect bunt into no man’s land between the Pitcher, Second Baseman, and First Baseman, leaving no play on anyone. The Squeeze Play single scored Murphy and gave the Thunderwolves their 1st win of the season.

The Wolves were led offensively by John McDonnell 4 for 4, 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs; Jason Tolar 4 for 5, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 3 SB; Don Brooks 4 for 5, 2 runs scored, 5 RBIs, and 4 SB.

Matt Levine earned the win on the mound after struggling a bit and letting the Mustangs tie the game in the top of the 7th. Levine gave up a two out hit with the bases loaded and the tying run scored. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the tried to score the go ahead runner from second, but he was cut down at the plate by a great throw from Don Brooks from shallow Left Field, ending the Mustangs comeback and threat.

The Thunderwolves look to have a Mother’s Day break and return to the field in 2 weeks and continue their winning ways.

Game 2 of the season vs. the Hitmen. 12 Noon, El Pomar.

Thunderwolves lost a heartbreaker today. Two untimely errors in the bottom of the 7th led to the Redbirds winning 10-9. The wolves faced one of the elite teams in their division and went toe to toe with them. The Thunderwolves proved they are for real and look to next week playing the Hitmen to solidify that they are a team to be reckoned with.
