Nickel has 8 little brothers and sisters to play with, his momma more is vigorous in her play with him as weaning is well underway, Nickel’s emotional support and therapeutic giving cat buddy Floof gave him a great treatment today and there was copious amounts of water to drink. What more could a big bro get to remind him how important he is to the clan?

I am most fortunate to live with Shamrock, Pinto, and Nickel who were all also born underfoot in their years (2018, 2021, and 2023, respectively). Wanted to share throwback pics of them in their tenderest months — the same effort that The Nauticals are getting this year went into them and their littermates in their earliest weeks as well. This primed them to be most excellent supports for the developing puppies.

The literal blood, sweat (curses, heat dome!), and even bruises earned wrangling a gaggle of growing puppies given a large fenced-in yard to stretch their legs and coordination and exposures to so much stimuli that nourish their developing egos on these long summer days has been worth it all to prepare them for the magic that will unfold when they are properly placed for their next chapter.
And yes, long run-on sentences are what come out when I think about the past month and a half!!

The Nauticals are 6 weeks old now and hurtling to 7, preparing for their next phase of development. Physically getting faster, more coordinated, personalities getting stronger and consistent. These two, Orby and Keely, are two of the 8 Nauticals. The adult weights of this octet, based on what their growth has been the past 6 weeks, is guesstimated at ranging between 55 - 85. They are currently gaining approximately 1.25 pounds per week and currently range between 6. 9 - 8.4 pounds. But those numbers will change tomorrow! They are non shedding and have doodle coats. For reminders these pups are 1/2 standard poodle, 1/4 English Springer Spaniel, and 1/4 Old English Sheepdog. Stellar, stable temperaments, lovingly raised underfoot! Some will lighten up from black to gray or silver over time, and all are loving, athletic, affectionate, intelligent, playful and cuddly. They are spectacular service and/or therapy dog prospects and of course also companion dogs. They will have their first set of shots, 3 wormings, and get treatment for flea/tick/heartworm before placement. They are meeting new dogs, new people and will have a number of great adventures before they leave for their future lives.

The changes from neonates to scrappy 6 week olds has been transformative. They are ready for partnering. Each a distinct and unique personality. I adore that they all love being cuddled.
Fun day loving on, caring for and playing with the puppies in between getting some much needed cleanup and organization. They are really developing their unique personalities. Anchor, Tiller, Aura, Keel(y), Orby, Buoy, Schooner and Jib.
