TL;DR: They aren't as well-regulated as many believe, and the claims on the package aren't confirmed by the FDA. They don't ""boost"" your immune system (this only occurs in response to microbes), but can help supplement nutrients missing from a balanced diet. The best thing you can do for your immune system is eating more whole foods.
