Cumberland Pool closed today (July 16).
The Northeast Ohio region is under an Air Quality Alert due to the wildfire smoke from Canada that elevated air pollution to the Maroon level, which Ohio EPA classifies as Unhealthy for Everyone. Due to the hazardous air quality, Cumberland Pool has been closed out of concern for health during this current air quality alert. We're monitoring the situation and will share an update tomorrow when NOACA shares the forecast.
Please take extra precautions and avoid strenuous outdoor activity today as the fine particles (PM2) found in wildfire smoke may be hazardous to your health.

NOACA issued an Air Quality Alert for today (July 15).
๐ Have flexibility in your schedule?
Even if the forecast is Orange (unhealthy for sensitive groups), there may be times during the day when air quality is OK for outdoor activities. Ozone is often lower in the morning. Check current air quality to see if now is a good time for you to be active outdoors.
๐ Canโt change your schedule?
People with lung disease such as asthma, children and teens, older adults, and people who are routinely active outdoors for six or more hours a day: Reduce your exposure by choosing less strenuous activities or shortening the amount of time you are active outdoors.
๐ Everyone else: Enjoy your outdoor activities.

HEAT ADVISORY
There is a heat advisory in place today (July 14) from noon to 8pm in our area. Heat index values up to 101 degrees expected. We encourage all residents to seek air conditioning and limit strenuous outdoor activities.
**The current air quality is moderate meaning, if you are unusually sensitive to particle pollution, consider reducing your activity level or shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.
๐ก๏ธ Keep Cool ๐ก๏ธ
During heat waves, the Cleveland Heights Community Center serves as a cooling station for all Cleveland Heights and University Heights residents, Monday to Friday from 6 am to 9 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.
Cumberland Pool is a great place to cool off, and children 10 and under accompanied by an adult may also utilize the Cain Park Splash Pad.
Stay well-hydrated with cool water, wear loose and lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor work.
โ ๏ธ Critical Reminders โ ๏ธ
Frequently check on the elderly, those without A/C, and people with pre-existing health conditions.
Do not leave pets or children in confined spaces or parked cars for any amount of time.
If you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, or dizziness, seek medical attention immediately.
Track real-time, local pollution and smoke alerts by checking the U.S. EPA's official AirNow.gov Ohio Map.
