Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

~Calvin Coolidge

Pretty much the template for my upcoming book.

Share your fears.
Share your failures.
Share your worldviews.
Share your vulnerabilities.
Share your transformations.
Share your polarizing opinions.
Share your hard-earned lessons.

Share you.

If people only wanted information, they'd Google it.

"The average man never really thinks from end to end of his life. The mental activity of such people is only a mouthing of cliches. What they mistake for thought is simply a repetition of what they have heard. My guess is that well over 80 percent of the human race goes through life without having a single original thought."

~ H. L. Mencken

“As humans, we have trouble processing large amounts of data involving multiple variables, and when we get overwhelmed we go on autopilot, and the result is far from optimal.” ~from the book “Die With Zero”

Do coaches get overwhelmed and go on autopilot? 🤔

A strong philosophy requires two things: knowing what you believe—and knowing what you reject.

I spoke in the “Bart Starr Room” at Lambeau today. My first favorite QB was Bart Starr. At age-11 I read Jerry Kramer’s “Instant Replay” and Vince Lombardi’s “Run to Daylight”.

It can be argued that ALL TRAINING is conditioning.

I choose to use the traditional coach’s definition of conditioning… the mindless pursuit of fatigue, getting accustomed to exhaustion by running gassers, suicides, shuttles, laps, miles, stadium stairs, etc.

It’s my belief that chasing fatigue prevents gains in speed and explosiveness. Twitchy athletes will mutiny.

There’s no doubt you can get fit and improve capacity without focusing on traditional aerobic work (unless your sport is an endurance sport).

Get fit by stacking performance-level anaerobic work.

Make practice the best part of a kid’s day and let the sport train the demands of the sport.

Today I spoke with a college lacrosse athlete who must run a 12:30 two-mile for his conditioning test.

Training for the two-mile will detrain speed and explosiveness.

Sprint Based Rugby ⤵️

We fed the cats again this year and it paid off. We focused on getting fast and explosive in the offseason. We prioritized being fresh, staying fast, and feeling good on game days.

We didn't “condition" in practice - ever. We gave days off, especially down the stretch.
The result? We were faster than our opponents, we wore them out as they chased after us or got smothered by our defense. The result? Champions for the third year in a row!
