I didn’t write Winning Boxing just to write another boxing book.

I wrote it because after years of coaching, studying fights, developing fighters, and watching the same mistakes happen over and over, I realized something:

Boxing doesn’t need to be as complicated as we make it.

Winning Boxing is my attempt to put my system, my philosophy, and the way I see this sport on paper.

This book is for fighters who want to understand why things work—not just memorize combinations.

It’s for coaches who want to build fighters who can think, adjust, and win.

In this video, I explain why I wrote the book and read the message from the back cover.

The goal isn’t to know more boxing.

The goal is to WIN.

POV: You’re a coach who shows up on time, owns your own gym, plans every training session, studies the sport, develops fighters with an actual system, and takes responsibility for helping them improve and WIN…

…but everybody wants that level of coaching for cheap. 😂🥊

Good coaching isn’t just holding mitts and yelling combinations.

There’s a difference between getting a workout and being developed as a fighter.

And right now, I’m looking for 6 serious Las Vegas fighters who understand that difference.

I’m holding tryouts for the Winning Boxing Development Program.

If you’re experienced, coachable, consistent, and serious about competing:

Not getting hit doesn’t automatically mean good defense.

I was in a gym and watched a fighter defend an entire combination without getting touched. The coach yelled, “Good defense!”

And technically, he was right.

But I saw something different.

The fighter survived the exchange—but he didn’t win the exchange.

He didn’t counter.
He didn’t take ground.
He didn’t improve his ring position.
He didn’t make the opponent pay for opening up.

To me, great defense has a purpose.

Defend → Counter → Improve Position → Take Control.

If all your defense does is keep you from getting hit, eventually you have to defend again.

The best defense should create your next offensive opportunity.

That’s the difference between teaching fighters how to avoid punches and teaching fighters how to win boxing.

I break down how I see the sport, how I teach it, and the principles behind my system in my new book, Winning Boxing by Cleveland Hughes Jr.

Eyes have to be trained before the hands

Rhythm creates opportunity. Timing wins exchanges.

This speed bag drill isn’t just about hand speed—it’s about developing the rhythm, timing, consistency, and eye coordination needed to land the triple hook under pressure.

Train the skill. Build the habit. Win the exchange.

These are the kinds of systems I break down in my book, Winning Boxing by Cleveland Hughes Jr.

Most boxing instruction teaches fighters how to throw more punches.

I teach fighters how to solve the first problem in every fight.

If you can’t deal with the jab, you’ll spend the rest of the fight reacting instead of controlling.

Jab defense isn’t just defense—it’s the foundation for offense. Once you can negate, catch, and counter the jab, you begin taking away your opponent’s ability to build combinations and control the pace.

Winning starts by winning the jab battle.

This is one of the core concepts behind my upcoming book, Winning Boxing. More soon. 🥊📖
