📚✏️ “ODD-way?”

“Nope. It’s ODE-way.”

If you've ever had your name mispronounced on the first day of school, you know that little pause when the teacher reaches your name on the attendance sheet. 😬

For me, it was a September tradition. By June, they knew it.
Then September came around again… and so did the pronunciation lesson. 😂

College? Same story.

New jobs? Same story.

New people and new introductions throughout life? You guessed it.

But somewhere along the way, I realized my unusual surname wasn't just something to correct.

It was part of my story.

And that's what inspired my latest blog: “An Ode to a Surname.” ✍️

It's a personal story with a little humor about growing up with an uncommon name. And a bigger message about why names matter.

For every child who waits nervously during roll call…

For every student who wonders how their name will sound coming from someone else's mouth…

For every adult who has quietly corrected the pronunciation of their name more times than they can count…

Speak up. Say your name. Teach others how to say it.

Because your name carries more than letters.

It carries family. History. Heritage. Identity. ❤️

And when we take the time to learn someone's name and say it correctly, we're saying: You matter. You belong.

Here's to all the wonderfully uncommon names out there.
Mine isn't odd. It's ODE-way. 😉

✨Have you ever dreaded hearing your name called because you knew it would probably be mispronounced?

A chipmunk I spotted on a recent nature walk reminded me that sometimes carrying something valuable requires slowing down. Maybe our conversations should too.

My newest blog explores why taking a few extra seconds to learn someone's name can communicate respect, build trust, and create stronger relationships.

Sometimes the simple pause creates a caring connection.

🌿 Are your communications strategies growing deep roots — or just chasing trends?

The strongest brands and organizations aren’t built overnight. They grow intentionally through consistent messaging, authentic thought leadership, and values-driven storytelling that stands the test of time.

In my newest The Nature of PR blog article, “Rooted, Not Rushed: Why a Sustainable Communications Strategy Matters,” I explore:
✨ Long-term reputation building
✨ Thought leadership over trend chasing
✨ Strategic use of awareness, observances, and social-focused moments
✨ Why slower, intentional PR often leads to lasting growth

Sometimes the most powerful communications work happens beneath the surface before anyone sees the bloom. 🌳

Closing out Men’s Health Month with a reminder to get outside and move. 💪🌿

Morning walks or runs don’t just benefit physical health — they help clear your mind, reduce stress, and spark creativity before the workday starts. ☀️🏃‍♂️

I’m sharing an article in the comments below on how outdoor exercise can help fuel stronger storytelling strategies and deeper connections with healthcare- and disability-industry audiences. 👇

As we wrap up the longest day of the year and welcome the first full days of summer, it’s hard not to reflect on how, for many in healthcare, every day can feel like the longest day of the year. ☀️🏥🌿

Hospital executives, primary care physicians, specialists, and surgeons continue to navigate packed schedules, mounting documentation demands, and aging, congested work environments, often spending more time with screens and paperwork than with the patients who need them most.

It raises a couple of important question for the second half of 2026: Will truly human-centric ambient AI scribes finally become the catalyst for operational efficiency, administrative speed, and less screen time in clinical care? 🤖🩺
And beyond technology, could refreshed healthcare environments — spaces intentionally designed with natural light, calming artwork, and restorative design 🌱🎨🍃 — bring more peace, focus, and human connection to an increasingly hectic pace?

The organizations willing to rethink both workflow and workplace may ultimately redefine the patient and clinician experience alike.

Hospital leaders: How is your organization leveraging ambient AI to reduce clinical burnout and improve the patient experience? And just as important: How are you reimagining healthcare spaces and environments to create more calm, healing, human-centered experiences for both patients and care teams? 🌳🪴✨

It might become the most meaningful patient story that blooms this season.

🌿✨ Blooming into a New Season ✨🌿

Sometimes the best ideas come when we step outside and observe what’s already growing. 🌱

Just like pollination in a garden, ideas grow through movement, exchange, and quiet transformation. This month’s Nature of PR Messaging Muses article explores how nature can restore creativity and help communicators refresh their storytelling approach.

From the Summer Solstice (June 21) to the Full Strawberry Moon (June 29), and even childhood summers spent outdoors, nature offers powerful reminders of how creativity naturally unfolds when we slow down and notice our surroundings.

💙 As winds down, the gratitude certainly does not.

This week is a meaningful reminder of the incredible role nurses play in healthcare and in our everyday lives — delivering compassionate care, advocating for patients, and supporting families through some of their most vulnerable moments. 🩺💛

It’s also important to recognize the real challenges nurses face each day — demanding workloads, emotional stress, and increasingly complex care environments. Their resilience and dedication continue to inspire deep respect and appreciation.

I’ve been fortunate to work with so many outstanding nurses over the years in helping share and elevate their work, as well as the physicians and care teams they collaborate with. That partnership is truly the backbone of effective, patient-centered care, and it’s been a privilege to help tell those stories. 🤝

To all nurses: thank you for everything you do — this week and every week. You make a difference that cannot be overstated. ❤️

🌼 Ever notice how one flower in a field seems to stand out?
That’s the power of clarity.

In healthcare, new programs and services are announced all the time, but the ones that truly resonate are grounded in purpose and communicated with intention.

Our latest blog explores how to move beyond “just another announcement” and create meaningful, values-driven launches whether it’s a new women’s health program, a developmental disabilities initiative, or new research findings.

✨ Visibility without values is noise. Visibility tempered with conviction becomes trust.

Two ducks. One current. Moving forward together. 🦆🦆🌊
That’s the heart of strong communication. When organizations build messages collaboratively and lead with purpose, they create connection not just content.
✨ Clear, consistent messaging
✨ Stories that reflect real people and values
✨ A shared sense of direction

Because the strongest message you can send is simple: You don’t navigate alone.

Developmental Disabilities Awareness doesn’t end with the month of March. The conversation continues and evolves. ♿✨

For healthcare and business communicators, reaching the developmental disability community isn’t about checking a box; it’s about building messaging that is informed, authentic, and inclusive. If you want to expand your audience reach, start by rethinking perspectives, prioritizing authentic storytelling, and understanding the nuances of disability messaging. Different audiences see through different lenses and connections start there. Read more on the Nature of PR. See link in comments below. 👇
