There’s really no reason to be anxious before a fight, a game, or a competition. The outcome is already decided before you step out on to that mat, field, court, etc. The end result is only a reflection of the time and effort you’ve put in V.S. the blood, sweat, and tears of your opponent. Luck has no place here. Talent is bu****it. Victory will be captured by the contender who has suffered more, endured the longest, and sacrificed the most. If that hurts your feelings, work fu***ng harder. It’s a long ride.

Most people don’t put enough emphasis on rowing, or just pulling in general. Pressing is important and should NEVER be ignored. However, I’d argue that pulling is more important. I could take an individual and drastically increase their performance in the squat and the deadlift without ever looking at their press. The same cannot be said for their pull. Your pulling proficiency will directly affect your squat and hip-hinge. Life is constantly working to pull us into kyphosis (head forward, shoulders rounded forward/internally rotated). If we fail to counter this in our training, our shoulders will go to hell and the forward weight shift will, over time, wear on our knees and back. You should be at least at a 1:1 push/pull strength ratio. If your push overpowers your pull, try to incorporate more pulling exercises at a 1.5/2:1 ratio to pushing exercises.

To the underdog:
If you’re looking to overcome the odds, you need a ghost.
You aren’t special. You aren’t deserving. You’re attempting to remove a mountain. You’re going up against an adversary that is more talented than you are. They’ve had more opportunities than you. They’ve put more time in than you. They’re bigger and stronger. They’re more technical. They’re better. The only way you’re ever going to beat them is to outwork them. I’m not talking about the contest. By then, the outcome has already been decided. You have to outwork them every single fu***ng day. That seemingly invincible opponent must haunt you every fu***ng day. A day you take off is a day they get better and you’re playing catch-up so you can’t afford any fu***ng vacations right now. And although they seem insurmountable, they aren’t you. Your X-factor is your WILL. Your essence. Embrace your ghost. Embellish your ghost and be driven by it. Every time you get hit keep sticking your nose in further. Over and over and over and over until you get the opportunity to start hitting back. And when you do, run through that motherf**kers face over and over and over and over again. Will makes men giants. Embrace being the nail until you become the hammer.
