I never thought my business could be an idol… because I genuinely believe coaching is a gift God gave me.
And THAT was the part I was missing.
An idol doesn’t have to be something bad.
It can be your career.
Your body.
Your marriage.
Your children.
Your health.
Your discipline.
Your success.
Even the gifts God Himself gave you.
The problem isn’t loving those things.
The problem is when we start asking them to give us what only God can give us — our identity, security, worth, peace, purpose or control.
I spent years gripping my business so tightly because I built it from the ground up. Coaching comes naturally to me. I’m good at it. I love doing it.
But somewhere along the way, a gift I was supposed to steward became something I was depending on.
And God has been showing me the same thing with discipline.
Discipline is one of my greatest strengths… but even that can become an idol when I start trusting my ability to control the outcome more than I trust Him.
The crazy part?
Now that I can finally see it, I have no problem laying it down.
That doesn’t mean I stop coaching.
It doesn’t mean I stop being disciplined.
It doesn’t mean I stop caring for my body.
It means I put those things back where they belong.
They are gifts from God.
But they are not God.
And maybe surrender isn’t always God asking you to give something up.
Maybe sometimes He’s simply asking you to loosen your grip. ❤️
