Question of the Week: Will a speech disorder affect reading or academics later?

Therapist Answer: It can—but early support greatly reduces that risk. Strong speech and language skills are closely connected to reading, writing, and overall learning. When children have difficulty with sounds or understanding language, it can impact things like phonics, comprehension, and classroom participation. The good news is that with early intervention, many children build the skills they need to be successful in school.

Counseling Corner Topic of the Week
Worry is usually temporary and tied to a specific situation. Anxiety tends to stick around, feel harder to control, and can affect your body too - racing thoughts, tight chest, trouble sleeping, or feeling constantly on edge.

Ask yourself:
“Can I move on from this thought, or does it keep pulling me back in?”
