Connection doesn't always happen at home or at work. Sometimes it happens during a group exercise class, while waiting for swim lessons to end, volunteering together, or catching up with familiar faces in the lobby.
That's why places that bring people together matter.
Axios Charlotte recently shared how Americans are spending less time socializing than they did just two decades ago and highlighted the important role "third places" can play in helping people build community and relationships.
At the YMCA, creating spaces where people can connect, belong, and build meaningful relationships is part of who we are.
What's your favorite third place (somewhere that isn't home or work) in Charlotte?
Tell Axios Charlotte at [email protected]
Americans of all ages are spending less time socializing
It's a fundamental shift in the way we live our lives that has implications for everything from what we believe to how long we live.

βοΈ Summer fun and summer safety go hand in hand.
As we kick off another week of camp and another week of high temperatures, keeping campers safe is our top priority. Our teams proactively adjust schedules, encourage frequent hydration, build in extra shade and indoor breaks, monitor weather conditions, and train staff to recognize the signs of heat-related illness so kids can enjoy camp safely.
Thank you to WSOC-TV for highlighting how our camp staff helps keep children safe while making summer unforgettable.
