The Gators 🐊 kicked off our Wednesday night 9-hole Twilight Golf League yesterday at Carolina Lakes Golf Club with the team already in mid-season form! 🤣

For the third year in a row I am serving as the local Charlotte league ambassador and is sponsoring the league’s Winners Circle Sweepstakes Grand Prize - the Golf Trip of a Lifetime!

I expect the third time to be a charm for my Gators team, as we’ve finished second the past two seasons. 😑

The Spring leagues are just getting started around the Queen City and Summer and Fall leagues will also be running this season. Find a convenient course and day that fits your group’s schedule and reach out to me if you need any help.

It’s gonna be a fun season! Go Gators 🐊!

This looks very cool. Excited to see it once they finish it.

Finally got another trophy for the mantle! Been a minute, but I knew it would come before too long. I had to get used to running these events on little to no warmup and then dialing things in out of the gate.

Big thanks to for his help - he’s my right hand man for this Tour and I couldn’t have played this round without knowing he was making sure the rest of the field got off on time. Also thanks to ’s Rob Walko for handling first tee announcements.

My apologies to for slowing down his winning streak on the NC Tour. At least I beat you with birdies on 16 and 17! 😛

Pretty sure the keys to my victory were my pants and my belt. 😃 Also, a shout out to for supplying our Champion hats. Now I can wear mine with pride!

And to those that love and hate this game… here’s a word of encouragement: On Friday I shot 98 and was about to break all my clubs until a birdie on the 16th hole in that round. 3 days later and (good) golf happened. I guess that’s why it’s a four-letter word. 😂

If you want a shot at one of these trophies and Champion hats, come play our next event at Edgewater on April 18th. Of course, you’ll have to beat me to get ‘em!

Longview’s opening dinner for golf season gave me a chance to catch up with this guy - Brendon de Jonge (). Brendon shared his thoughts on a range of golf topics for our members, taking questions and offering insights into his daily life as a PGA Tour Live commentator for Golf Channel and SiriusXM Radio.

I had to rib him a little bit about his notorious Charlotte area Member-Guest exploits last season that drew the attention of . Fact check: his teams did NOT even win those tournaments. Cut our guy some slack! 😅

He also gave us a Masters pool sleeper pick - Jake Knapp. You heard it here first!

Looking forward to seeing (hearing) you at the Masters next week, Brendon! 🙌

Is this how the 2016 trend works? 😅

I get an email every month from the CGA with my current handicap index. Fun fact: they used to only do revisions twice a month. Now it happens every day if you post a new score.

So I went back to my email archives and found this one from January 2016 to see what my index was back then.

Funny (or sad?) thing is my current index is only a stroke lower. 😌

Not sure what that says about my golf ability 🤷‍♂️ but I’ll just be satisfied with the fact that it’s lower, even if only by a stroke.

Will my index be lower in 2036? 🤔 Anyone want to make a wager? 🤑

Great to get back to Highland Creek Golf Club last week and check out the brand new Ultra-Dwarf Bermuda greens. This course was in my regular rotation 20 years ago when I first started playing golf in Charlotte and feels like an old friend.

I considered Highland Creek the toughest public course in the area and with its new greens I’m sure it will live up to that reputation once they grow in.

For now, the new greens are good and much more consistent than the aging Bentgrass they replaced. They aren’t super fast but they do roll true. The greens along with the tees and fairways have been over seeded to keep everything lush and green throughout the typically dormant winter months.

The layout is still fabulous with the namesake creek and several ponds putting a premium on accuracy. In addition, doglegs, elevation changes and risk-reward decisions challenge your shot-making and mental game.

The closing hole is one of my favorite in Charlotte. The slight dogleg right par 5 teases you to take on the large pond guarding the right side and the green. If you can cut the corner just enough on the tee shot, you should only have 150-200 yards left to take a shot at making eagle.

The 18th green is overlooked by the , which is a great place for food, drinks and music after the round.

I was duly impressed with the renovations and I’m excited to see the new greens help bring this course back to the upper echelon of Charlotte public golf.
