Yesterday I got in one last swim for a while. It felt good to do one of the things I love before taking this next step.
Today I’m having surgery for the nerve problem that has completely turned my world upside down these past few months.
This summer has been incredibly hard. I’ve had to defer races, stop lifting, and modify much of what I do in a day. I’ve gone from running, lifting, working, and doing all the things I love to struggling to walk, work, sleep, and sometimes just get through the day.
I’m ready for a change.
I don’t know exactly what recovery will look like, but I’m hopeful that this is the beginning of getting my life back—and eventually getting back to the things that make me feel like me.
I’m so thankful for the people who have checked in, listened, helped, and loved me through this. My husband deserves a gold medal for putting up with a wife who doesn’t have her usual coping strategies to burn off the crazy.🤪 He’s been a trooper. And Carson said something that absolutely shifted my perspective. He told me he was praying for me and then he said, “I’m glad you have the opportunity to do this.” There is a solution for my pain. There is a surgeon who can perform the surgery. And we can afford to make it happen. And for all of those things, I am grateful.
If this intensely difficult period has taught me anything, it’s that movement really is medicine. I will literally cry happy tears when I can walk my dog again.
I can’t wait for what’s next.💜
