Today I break down a 3.0 gold medal match from Arizona for 3.0–3.5 players looking to reach 4.0, since most points at this level end within the first four or five shots. I cover serve and return strategy, third-shot choices, and the transition mistakes that come up most — things like stepping in after a drive, skipping the split step, and going for putaways too hard. I also get into better court positioning and how to handle pace with compact counters.

Fix Your Pickleball Resets: Stable Base, Open Paddle Face & Smooth Lift
In this Shot by Shot episode, I explain why players struggle with resets and how to fix them for shots that clear the net and land consistently in the kitchen. I break down the fundamentals of a low, wide base, open paddle face, lifting from the shoulder instead of punching, and a slow, stable motion. Along with the common mistakes that throw resets off, like standing too tall, setting up late, or swinging too hard. Then I run through drills and progressions, from close-net feeds to transition-zone work, finishing with live gameplay to put it all into practice.
