And with that, our competition season is over.

✈️ We returned to Iowa late last night after debating at the CEDA National Championships.
Kat/Tony went 2-6 with some very close losses to teams that went deep into elims. Needless to say, we are proud of them for holding their own in some very tough debates!

🥳 Huge congratulations to Kansas SS for winning the tournament and Iowa AP for an incredible run! Also, huge thank you to Binghamton debate and JL for hosting a wonderful CEDA!

While our competition season is done, our work is never finished!

🎉🏆 We have the annual team banquet on the 16th at 5pm in the Maucker Union University Room - if you are interested in attending, please email [email protected] to RSVP.

🚌✏️ Then, we start our Iowa HS Tour where we will be visiting high schools across Iowa and encouraging them to attend UNI and join the team! If you would like us to visit your school or a school you know, please email [email protected] and we will try to add it to our list of stops.

We had a wonderful time at the 80th National Debate Tournament!

We won some ballots while debating Oklahoma University, James Madison University, and West Point Military Academy! We had some really close debates against Michigan State, West Georgia University, University of Texas-Dallas and Dartmouth. Ultimately, we’re happy with our record and experience, especially with the local food we got to enjoy!

It was an exhausting yet fulfilling week in Houston. Now, time to rest for a day before we fly to Binghamton for CEDA!

We had a great day 0 yesterday at the NDT!

We completed in person registration, had breakfast, prepped, went for a late lunch, prepped some more, took team pictures, prepped some more, attended the opening ceremony, and then prepped some more with Dr. Cate Palczewski!

Today, competition officially starts with “Round the First” scheduled for 9:20.

We’ve arrived at the NDT!

This morning, the Quinci/Burke were up bright and early to catch a flight to Houston for the 80th National Debate Tournament. After a long travel day, we safely made it to the hotel, had dinner, and checked some last minute things off our prep task list!

We’ve got a jam packed schedule for tomorrow! Registration, two more prep sessions, team pictures and the opening ceremony await us!

Wish us luck as we take on the top 78 teams in the country!

We’re going back the NDT!!

This weekend, Quinci Chapman and Burke Doyle qualified to the 80th National Debate Tournament, hosted by the University of Houston, after earning a D4 district bid. This is Burke's 2nd NDT bid and Quinci's 1st. They participated in many hard-fought debates against the University of Iowa, University of Minnesota, and Macalester College to claim their spot as one of the top 76 teams in the country. Alongside them were Kat Van Buren and Tony Miller who barely missed out on a qualification.

Please join us in congratulating Quinci and Burke for their success this weekend and wish them luck as they tackle the NDT in late March. We look forward to returning to the NDT for the second year in a row!

Congratulations to all who qualified. We’ll see you in Houston!

We’ve had a great time at the Kansas State University half of the Sunflower Swing!!

🏆Ellie/Sabrina won the Top Novice Seed award after debating in a combined JV/Novice division! 🏆

Kat/Tony and Quinci/Burke had a lot of really close debates in the open division, with wins against University of North Texas and University of Texas San Antonio.

We also enjoyed spending time with other teams! We went bowling and had dinner with UTSA! The students had a blast getting to know one another and made a bunch of new friends. Shoutout the UTSA coaches, Jalisa & Alonso for helping make this fun time happen!

🎉We’re bringing home some trophies🎉

This week, Quinci/Burke (open), Kat/Tony (open) and Sabrina/Ellie (novice) are competing in the Sunflower Swing tournaments hosted by Kansas University and Kansas State University. We just finished the first half and we have some good news to share!

🏆Sabrina/Ellie finished as finalists in Novice!🏆

Our open debaters had several close debates but fell short of clearing. We’re putting in hard work as we head into the second half and we’re looking forward to running it back with our competitors!

We had a wonderful weekend competing in the Big Tent Online tournament! It’s an incredibly affordable tournament with a humane schedule that invites debaters across formats to engage with one another and receive high quality feedback. Thank you Missouri State for all your hard work making this happen! Congratulations to NYU, West Georgia and UCO for winning the tournament!
