💜💙 COMMITTED! 🏃♀️🎓
We’re excited to announce that Jordan Hathaway has committed to continue her Cross Country career at Georgia Highlands College!
What makes this story a little different is Jordan had already planned to attend GHC before they reached out.
Jordan said, “I was already planning on going to GHC to get my bachelor’s degree, so this opportunity fit perfectly with my plans for the future. I honestly never thought I would get an offer to run in college, so I was really excited to find out there was a team that wanted me to run for them. I had planned to keep running on my own through college, so getting to extend my time as part of a team sounded pretty great.”
Her visit made the decision even easier.
“When I met the team and Coach Jason, I immediately felt welcomed! I was surprised to see how many teammates came to meet me, and everyone was so nice. Knowing I would be joining such an amazing team was really encouraging and solidified my decision.”
💙 GHC Reached Out
For Coach Jason, it started with what Jordan had accomplished on the course.
“As with most recruits, her HS times are what stood out initially and were the reason I reached out to Jordan. She is someone who could immediately make our team better on the course as we continue to build our new program.”
But after Jordan visited GHC, it became about more than times.
“Once she came to visit and was able to meet her and her parents, I knew she’d be a great fit not only for our team but for GHC on the whole. She’s a great student with a good work ethic. She met some of our current team and immediately got along with them. I knew she’d fit in seamlessly if she chose to come run for us.”
Coach Jason believes Jordan can make an impact right away:
“I see Jordan as a runner who will immediately compete for one of our top 7 spots. She also brings the training and racing experience that our current team doesn’t yet have and can help her teammates improve in these areas.”
Long term, he sees Jordan developing into one of GHC’s top 3–4 runners as the Chargers build a program that is consistently a national qualifier.
“I’m excited about what the future holds for her and GHC.”
CANES XC Coach Bridges, is equally excited to see her get this opportunity:
“We’re thrilled and incredibly proud of Jordan for getting the chance to race in Cross Country at the college level! She’s got such a positive attitude and has really stepped up as a leader among her friends. We’ll keep working hard to get her ready for running after high school. Go out there and shine, Jordan!”
🏃♀️➡️🏒 The Bigger Goal
Jordan plans to spend the next 2–3 years at Georgia Highlands, continuing to run while working toward her academic goals. From there, she hopes to transfer to The University of Alabama, The Ohio State University, or another university that can help her continue toward her ultimate career goal — becoming an athletic trainer for a hockey team. 🏒
She thought she was simply choosing where she would go to college.
Turns out, Cross Country wasn’t quite finished with her yet. 💜💙
Congratulations, Jordan! From wearing her high school uniform for these final races to putting on a GHC uniform next fall, there are still plenty of miles ahead.
