Now this is what I would call a normal back. Moderate wither, straight profile, and plenty of real estate for a saddle before you hit the 18th rib. We see fewer and fewer of these, especially among the modern sport horses. Short backs, slightly croup-high individuals, some with very high and hypermobile shoulders are more and more the norm. Not a bad thing in and of itself, and it gives us the movement that many equestrian sports reward these days. But boy do those horses make saddle-fitting difficult! If you have one of those, you definitely want the help of a professional. (bonus points if you guess the breed of this mare)
