Sofia Sonet Dressage

We are so excited to welcome Sophie Dendtler to the Sofia Sonet Dressage team! Sophie will officially be joining us in August as our groom and assistant, and I can’t wait for everyone to meet her.

Sophie grew up competing in the hunter/jumper industry and, after graduating high school, spent a year in Kentucky working as a professional groom and rider for a renowned hunter/jumper trainer. She currently owns three horses, including two retirees and a young KWPN she hopes will become her future upper level jumper. Along the way, she developed a passion for equine wellness and became a Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist, now operating her own business, EquiFlow Bodywork.

My goal has always been to provide the highest level of care for both our horses and our clients. Adding Sophie to our team allows us to continue building on that commitment. In addition to her daily role caring for our horses, she will also be available to provide in house equine sports massage and bodywork. Having that expertise as part of our team allows us to offer an even more comprehensive approach to our horses’ health, comfort, and performance.

We’re excited for Sophie to expand her knowledge of dressage while bringing her own experience and expertise to our program. We truly believe she’ll be a tremendous asset to our team and to the horses in our care.

P.S. I swear I didn’t hire her just because her name is Sophie… although it does make yelling across the barn a little more entertaining😂

ISO: Part-Time Groom / Working Student

Sofia Sonet Dressage is looking to add another person to our team in Canton, GA!

This is a great opportunity to work alongside an FEI rider and quality dressage horses while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a professional training program.

We’re a fun, supportive team that values a positive attitude, good communication, and helping each other succeed. We work hard, laugh often, and strive to maintain a welcoming, respectful barn environment.

Responsibilities include:
• Tacking up and untacking horses
• Bathing horses
• Hand-walking horses
• Cleaning and organizing tack
• Opportunities to travel to horse shows

Looking for someone who is:
• Positive and hardworking
• Organized and reliable
• Horse experience required (dressage experience is a plus, but not required)
• Eager to learn and be part of a team

Position details:
• Part-time hours (generally 8:00 AM–1:00 PM during the summer; hours vary seasonally)
• Flexible schedule
• Some riding opportunities for the right person
• Working student opportunities available

I have an adult amateur seeking a safe, comfortable horse for pleasure riding with some dressage work and the possibility of future showing. A good brain and kind temperament are the top priorities.

Looking for:
• 16h+ preferred
• 7 years or older
• Mare or gelding
• Budget ✌🏻x, # # #, but negotiable for the right horse
• At least First Level dressage
• Safe, sane, and confidence-inspiring
• Comfortable gaits
• Trail experience a plus
• Suitable for an AA wanting to enjoy riding and continue progressing
• Open to most breeds, but no TBs please
• Needs to be able to “take a joke” and tolerate the occasional rider mistake without taking offense

Located in Georgia and willing to travel nearby for the right match.

On the way home from the Georgia Dressage and Combined Training Association Show in Conyers. Everyone did so good. It was such a fun weekend! Special things to Betsy Kaywood for all of her help. Thanks to my awesome working student Kathryne Hammond, who got all of her qualifying second level scores towards her bronze medal! I again had the pleasure of showing Sue Lekas’s wonderful Mare Mia (my first show since having my daughter!) Mia was perfection. Cannot wait for the next show!

Some arena thoughts....

• The arena is a truth serum. Ride long enough, and it tells you exactly who you are.

• Dressage is spiritual practice disguised as sport. It punishes your impatience. It rewards your awareness.

• Dressage is just stillness, applied to movement.

• Suppleness is the body’s way of saying “I trust you".

• A dressage arena is just a mirror. And most riders are afraid of what it reflects.

• Ride with the faith that your horse is becoming who you believe it can be.

• You don’t need louder aids. You need better timing.

• Every bad ride is tuition. Pay it. Ride again.

• You don’t achieve connection. You become someone a horse wants to connect with.

• True riders don’t ride to win. They ride to become.

• You can’t fake softness. You can’t pretend to be calm. You have to become it.

• True lightness isn’t the absence of pressure, it’s the presence of understanding.

• Riding isn’t about controlling the horse. It’s about managing yourself so the horse doesn’t have to.

• Progress is invisible, until it’s not.

• You can’t fake collection. The horse will either lift, or lean.

• If you're not failing in the arena, you're not learning, you're performing.

• You don’t fix mistakes. You understand them.

• No one masters dressage. They just get really good at not quitting.
