Weekly Recap:

7th Grade:

The 7th grade Chieftains are continually building toward a memorable season. With a current win streak and undefeated season currently in place, the Chieftains will look to build off of last weeks victory over Riser. A game that was led by the bruising fullback River Spillers along with some chunk plays from quarterback Jude Bennett. Though the result was in the Chieftains favor, the game was a bit sloppy to say the least. From miscues, to controversial calls or lackthereof. The goal remains the same. To continue progressing through the season with with one thing in mind: Win. After defeating Riser 14-0, the Chieftains look forward to the next opponent on the schedule.

8th Grade:

After experiencing their first loss of their middle school stints against Franklin Parish, the 8th grade group recovered this past Thursday when they traveled to Riser. A tough and gritty game met with it's own challenges of mistakes which are in need of being fixed. TJ Crew led the game in rushing, one of which was a 62 yard touchdown run to put the Chieftains on the board. Later on in the game Lake Hendrix would find wide receiver Roby Shepherd on a 47 yard touchdown strike. The defense would hold the Mustang offense scoreless on the night with fundamental football and disciplined tackling. Though the 8th grade team came away with a victory, they are not satisfied and look to clean things up as the season progresses.

The Chieftains will take a trip to Monroe this week to face off against the Warriors of St. Fredrick's.

UTTER DOMINANCE

The Chieftains showed up in dominate fashion last night as they took home the victory in the inaugural game of the 2026 season.

7th Grade: Similarly to last weeks jamboree against Woodlawn, the Chieftain offense struggled to find their footing in the first half with the lone touchdown being from Jude Bennett after a time consuming drive. The second half would be a different story. The offense put the foot on the gas and found another gear scoring 22 of the 30 points in the last two quarters of the game. This isn't without ex*****on from a sound defense causing turnovers and forcing the opponent to punt on multiple occasions. Becoming the commonality, Layne Stanfield was found in the backfield wreaking havoc on the opposing offense. River Spillers would break off two runs of both 50+ yards in the second half to solidify the victory. The Chieftains would take the victory over Caldwell with a score of 30-8.

8th Grade: What more can be said about this group? Though expectations are high, they must be tempered. With some solid opponents still ahead, the team recognizes the need of continued growth in order to have a successful season. The offense would begin picking up where they left off last week: A dominate run game with a stingy defense. The first score of the night would come from a slippery Zayden Perkins as he weaved his away around the Spartan defense that would culminate with 6 points. The next drive TJ Crew would get loose on a 63 yard touchdown run to put the Chieftain's up two scores. Though the offense would continue to score, the defense was as dominate as ever. Multiple plays from defensive rocks such as Dusty Tucker and Ayden Evans prevented the Spartan offense from reaching the endzone. The Chieftains will start 1-0 with a score of 28-0.

The Chieftains will welcome in the Patriots of Franklin Parish next Tuesday night.

FOOTBALL IS BACK!

The Chieftains started the 2026 season seemingly where they left off last season, with a ground and pound offense & a stifling defense.

The 7th grade team looked to showcase their talents in their first official jamboree of middle school football. With only a few first downs given up, the Chieftain defense dominated the game. This would remain the story for the entirety of the exhibition. While trying to find their footing, the offense experienced a some hiccups in the first half but responded in extraordinary fashion with a huge 60 yard touchdown run by Cayde Harris. The Chieftains would end up pulling out the victory 8-0.

The 8th grade looked to build upon their success from their 7th grade season where they went undefeated. The offense took the field first & it didn’t take long for them to find their rhythm. On the second play of the game, TJ Crew shot out of a cannon with a 70 yard touchdown run to put the Chieftains up 8-0 early. The defense would continue its dominate ways after only allowing one touchdown their entire 7th grade season. With adaptability having to be a key factor in order for any defense to be successful, that’s exactly what the Doctor ordered last night. With a 3 yards and a cloud of dust style of the opponent, the defense had to make an adjustment and that they did. The defense stonewalled Woodlawn & kept them scoreless for the game. TJ Crew would score his second touchdown of the night, leading the Chieftains to a 16-0 victory.

The Chieftains are welcoming Caldwell into Calhoun Tuesday night.

What a season for the Chieftains!

7th Grade:
The boys finished the story they began back in August. After some hard-fought wins and continuing to rely on one another, the fellas completed a perfect, undefeated season! The Calhoun 7th grade football team defeated Woodlawn in their final game with a score of 24-8.

After a quick opening drive by Woodlawn, Calhoun answered right back, marching down the field for a touchdown. The play of the game came on a 46-yard touchdown pass from Lake Hendrix to T.J. Crew with just 13 seconds left in the first half, extending the lead to 16-0. The Chieftain defense continued to impress, only allowing a last-second score as time expired.

What a season for this 7th grade squad!

8th Grade:
You could say the boys played “lights out” tonight. On the first drive, the offense marched 70 yards down the field and punched it in with bellcow fullback Jaxon Jones. The party didn’t stop there. Just two plays later, the CMS defense did what it has done all season—play tough, physical football—forcing a Woodlawn fumble that the Chieftains recovered. Shortly after, Zayden Florentine broke loose for a 16-yard touchdown run.

The Chieftains jumped out to a quick lead and never let off the gas. Mason Owens added a 26-yard touchdown run before halftime, giving Calhoun a 20-0 advantage at the break. The message was clear: Finish. And that’s exactly what they did. The defense forced another fumble on Woodlawn’s opening drive of the second half, and the offense coasted to another score by Jaxon Jones to seal the win 28-0.

What an absolute pleasure it was to coach these boys this season. With an overall team record of 11-1, I’d call it a success.

8th Grade: 5-1

Recap of the last couple games for the Chieftains:

7th grade keeps the undefeated season in play with a win over D’arbonne Woods. The team looks to cap the season off with a win Thursday night against rival Woodlawn to advance to 6-0 & complete the undefeated season.

8th grade looks to keep the winning streak alive. After dropping their first regular season game, the Chieftains have out scored their opponents 116-29 with the most recent being a 38-8 win over Caldwell. Throughout the season the team has been led by bruising FB Jaxon Jones & the gritty o-line. The defense has also been very stingy only allowing an average of 7.4 pts per game.

Both groups look forward to wins on Thursday night. 7th tries to keep the undefeated season alive, while 8th grade looks for revenge for last years loss to the Warriors.
