By popular request! My cortisol story in form!

Sometimes simply training the lower legs (calves, tibialis, fibularis) can be enough to start making knees feel more stable and stop “buckling.” But the next step I’ve used on myself and trainees is to get those specific muscles working HARD in knee extension, knee flexion, and hip extension.

It takes EFFORT, but especially once you are over 35, it is intelligent intensity that gets you results.

I always love when I stop into a gym and they have one of these, I usually go high rep and the end of a workout to pump blood into my low back and allow the momentum to take me into a spine decompressing stretch. I’ve never had regular access to this piece of equipment, so I do wonder how much it would move the needle if I did.

I’ve had good success with a few people setting up a no to low-weight version of this off a back extension for rehab purposes. I’ve thought about purchasing the collapsible version for my strength training gym in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn.

Usually I hear people in two camps, “the reverse hyper is just another exercise,” or “the reverse hyper save my back.” One of the loudest voices saying that the reverse hyper can be a godsend, is the late Louie Simmons. Although, I do need to ask if the fact he had the original patent for and sold this piece of equipment nudged him towards some degree of hyperbole.

What’s your experience been?

This past Saturday I competed in my first grappling tournament. I’ve never competed in any type of grappling or wrestling before, so this was a new experience. I had seven matches and earned silver in the white belt under 200 lbs and bronze in the white belt open division.

It’s cool to have the added insights of actual competition in grappling to now better understand the needs of my strength training clients who compete in jiujitsu.

Thank you to David Csizmadia and everyone at DiamondHeart Jiu Jitsu for the great training and coaching!

Ok, so you’re letting “sleeping in a bed,” somehow take you out of commission. Ok, read that again and realize how fu***ng lame that sounds and let’s get int the gym. *t
