Boomers have a night in Auburn 🥎⚡️
It was a windy, drizzly Friday night at Lemansky Park, and before first pitch, the sky put on a show of its own glowing like it was on fire before a rainbow lit up the sky.
The Brimfield Boomers 14U battled their way to an 11-8 win over Auburn in a back-and-forth game that came down to a couple of huge defensive plays at the end.
Brimfield jumped out early in the first. Emma Thompson worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home the first run, and Payton Murray followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0.
The Boomers kept the bats going in the second, scoring five runs on five hits. Eliana Bou and Belle Dennett each drove in a run with singles, Emma was hit by a pitch to bring home another, Jariella Male worked an RBI walk, and Payton brought home another run on a fielder’s choice.
Auburn battled all the way back to tie the game 8-8 in the fourth, but Brimfield had an answer.
Emma delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, putting the Boomers back on top 9-8, and Brimfield added some insurance from there.
Belle had another huge night, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while also carrying the load in the circle for 5⅓ innings with seven strikeouts.
Emma and Payton each drove in three runs, while Ellie LeClair and Valentina Carvalho both had multi-hit nights. Brimfield finished with 13 hits as a team.
The final inning had two massive defensive plays, with Auburn trying to keep the game alive, Kaydence Symczak made a huge play on a dropped third strike, threading a throw through traffic to Eliana Bou at first for the second out.
Then came the final play when Julia Metterville came up firing and delivered a perfect throw to home plate, where Kaydence made the play at the plate for the final out of the game.
Shout out to Auburn who has proved to be a great group of players and battled in both meetings this week.
Next up: Webster 14U comes to Brimfield on Monday — weather permitting.
