We can't let those high school kids have all the fun, so here's the race recap for CSU Rams Cycling's first race of the MTB season. Roster, results, recap, and 2026 MTB schedule are up on YGR now.

Fort Collins cycling and New Belgium Brewing go hand in hand. The idea for the iconic Fat Tire brand was born during a bike trip through Belgium in 1988. In 1991 the first beers were brewed in the basement of a home on Mountain Ave. The brand has been supporting the local scene for decades. Everything from donating all funds from Tour de Fat to local cycling nonprofits to hosting Tuesday night shorttrack, Tuesday night cyclocross, Cross of the North and the FoCo Fondo. They were the title sponsor when the Grand Prix of Cyclocross and the USA Pro Cycling Challenge came to town. NBB was the very first advertiser to sign onto YGR back in 2009. I'm proud to call many of their employees my friends and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to continue to fly their banner on the site.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to support Karen Manley, one of the people injured in the crash near the end of Tour de Fat in Fort Collins on Saturday, Aug. 29th.

Manley’s partner, Joshua Robert Douglass, was killed in the crash. At the time of this article, the campaign had raised $6,115 toward its $26,000 goal through 72 donations. The fundraiser is intended to help with medical and recovery expenses, meals, groceries and other day-to-day costs as she recovers from her injuries and grieves the loss of her partner.

Colorado High School Cycling League Race Weekend Recap-
The League kicked off its 2026 season over the weekend with racing split across the high country. While other divisions took on the Cloud City Challenge in Leadville, NoCo/SoWyo racers lined up in Frisco for the Frisco Bay Invitational. The weekend’s team spirit was in full force across the pits, featuring temporary tattoos and generous coatings of body glitter. Six NoCo riders ended up on podiums w/ 3 wins. Regardless of results, congrats to every racer that lined up. You're stronger now then you were the day before, both mentally and physically. Giddy up.

The Larimer County Coroner's Office has released the name and manner of death regarding the crash that took place near the Tour de Fat Parade on Saturday.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.

"Fort Collins Fatal Accident [sic] – August 29, 2026
On August 29, 2026, the Larimer County Coroner’s Office responded to Poudre Valley Hospital Emergency Department in Fort Collins, Colorado, to investigate the death of a 33-year-old male. The decedent was transported from the 100 block of West Mountain Avenue after being struck by a pickup truck. The decedent is identified as Joshua Robert DOUGLASS of Denver, Colorado.

A full forensic autopsy was performed on September 01, 2026, at the Larimer County Forensic Sciences Center by Dr. J. White, D.O.

Cause of Death: Multiple Blunt Force Injuries
No other information will be released by this office."

YGR note: When discussing the traffic crash, the Coroner's use of the word "accident" is inconsistent with Colorado House Bill 26-1237, which replaced the term accident with crash or incident in roughly 90 sections of state statute.

The Coroner's classification of Manner of Death: Accident is a separate medical-legal designation and is not affected by the law..

Press Release: Fort Collins Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Mountain Ave.

On August 29, 2026, at 11:44 a.m. Fort Collins 911 received several calls regarding a truck that drove onto the sidewalk and struck multiple people in the 100 block of West Mountain Avenue. Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) Patrol officers and many officers working a special event nearby immediately responded. Due to the special event, there were numerous bystanders in the area.

Once on scene, officers found that a Chevrolet pickup truck had collided with a tree and injured multiple pedestrians before coming to rest on a sidewalk on the south side of the street next to a business. In total, six people were transported with various injuries to area hospitals for treatment—including the driver of the truck. One of the pedestrians was pronounced deceased; the Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the decedent’s information at a later time.

Due to this being a fatal crash, the FCPS Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling (CRASH) Team responded to take over the investigation. To this point, the investigation has revealed that the involved truck reversed from a parking spot along Mountain Ave., striking another vehicle. It then drove forward onto the sidewalk, striking pedestrians before colliding with a tree and coming to a stop.

Police are still investigating the events and factors leading up to the crash to determine how it occurred, along with investigating if impairment was a factor. Police do not believe that these pedestrians were intentionally targeted.

“This was a tragic day for many in our community. We recognize the impact that this incident will have on those involved, the witnesses, and the responders. Our team of Victim Advocates are supporting those involved in what happened today. I’m appreciative of the quick response of our officers, the assistance of our emergency partners, and the community members who helped during this incident,” said FCPS Chief, Jeff Swoboda.

Mountain Ave. was closed between College Avenue and Mason Street for approximately 6 hours while investigators processed the scene.

Anyone with information about this incident who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Officer David Kaes or Officer Kevin Alexander at (970) 416-6540. The investigation is ongoing; no further information will be released at this time.

I’m in Frisco for the high school mountain races this weekend and don't have any details on the crash that took place near the Tour De Fat parade beyond current police and media reports. I will post an update once I have confirmed information.

Unverified by YGR- six people were hit by a driver of a gray Chevrolet pickup in front of Walrus Ice cream. All six individuals plus the driver were transported to local hospitals. I don't have confirmed information on anyone's condition.
