Seems like the lack of offense was epidemic tonight. 😭

Red Sox rehabbers tonight in Worcester:

🔹️ Roman Anthony: 0-4, K
🔹️ Trevor Story: 0-4, 3 Ks
🔹️ Isiah Kiner-Falefa: 0-2, 2 BB, RBI

At least IKF found a way to get on base... but man, the bats were absolutely silent tonight.

Final from Miami:

🔴 Red Sox 0, Marlins 3 🔵

The Red Sox get shut out by the Miami Marlins in the series finale and are unable to complete the sweep.

Runs were hard to come by as Boston managed just 5 hits, with two of them coming from Caleb Durbin.

Sonny Gray battled and kept the Red Sox in the game, but the offense never clicked. Four costly errors by the defense certainly didn’t help.

Now it’s time for a well-deserved day off to reset and get ready for a huge 4-game series in the Bronx against our archrivals, the New York Yankees, this weekend.

Let’s Go Red Sox! 🔴⚾

Don’t stop believing. 💪

Great play by the Durbinator! 🦾🔥

Caleb Durbin reaches over the tarp and comes down with it!

Sonny Gray battled his way through another tough outing tonight in Miami. 💪

Final Line:
🔹 5 IP
🔹 7 H
🔹 2 ER
🔹 1 BB
🔹 5 Ks

It wasn’t always pretty, and there were plenty of high-stress innings, but Gray settled in and did what he does best: made big pitches when it mattered. Lots of weak contact and plenty of nonsense to deal with, yet he managed to limit the damage to just two runs.

Tonight was the first time that Sonny Gray didn’t go 6 innings since July 25th. The last time before that was May 24th.

Season ERA: 2.82 🔥

Another gritty performance from Sonny. 🧦

Give him the Gold Glove already! 🏆

Ceddanne Rafaela just made ANOTHER incredible play, this time turning himself into Superman to rob Owen Caissie!

The man is an absolute magician in center field. 🎩

Marlins extend their lead. 😤

A throwing error by Connor Wong costs the Red Sox another run, as Wong continues to struggle defensively in this series.

Credit to Ceddanne Rafaela, who almost made an incredible play by throwing the runner out at the plate.

The Marlins now lead 2-0. 👀

The Marlins strike first. ⚾

An errant throw by Nick Sogard on an attempted double play came back to haunt the Red Sox, as a run came home on a single by Heriberto Hernández.

Miami leads Boston 1-0 in the Top of the 2nd.

The Red Sox are playing it safe with Adley Rutschman. 💪

After missing Wednesday’s game with elbow irritation, Boston decided there was simply no reason to rush him back. With Thursday’s off day, Rutschman will now get three straight days of rest, giving him plenty of time to get fully healthy before the Red Sox head to New York.

Chad Tracy said Rutschman is already feeling better, but the decision came down to one simple question: why risk putting him back out there if he isn’t completely recovered?

“He definitely is better today, which is good. But if he’s not like, ‘Hey, I feel completely fully recovered,’ why would you do that?”

The hope is that the extra rest allows Adley to get completely on the other side of the issue and be ready to go for the series in New York. 🙏

Tracy: “Hopefully [we’ll] be able to turn him loose in New York.” 👀

Smart move. No reason to push it now when three days of rest could have him ready to roll against the Yankees. 🔴⚪🔵

Willson Contreras gets the day off today as the Red Sox look to get him as healthy and fresh as possible for the upcoming series against New York. 💪

Chad Tracy explained that the decision was important with the various leg issues Contreras has been dealing with:

🗣️ “With just various leg things that he’s dealt with, being able to give him a day today plus tomorrow — work with the medical staff today and try to get his legs in the best place possible prior to New York — was important as well."

A much-needed break for one of Boston’s biggest offensive weapons. Hopefully, two days of rest and treatment will have Willson ready to go for the Yankees. 👀
