Which hands do you go for when undecided?

Hands built with pungs and kongs are some of the easiest to build in American mahjong. Why can be summed up in one word: Jokers.

Jokers may be use in all melds. You won’t get stuck waiting for a pair or a single if you pick one of these lines.

The most flexible? The pung/Kong hands in the Consecutive Run section.

In mahjong, you don’t need to know which hand you’re going to play right away.

First, focus on identifying viable sections you may be able to play, and then during The Charleston, work to collect tiles that support your chosen sections.

As the Charleston progresses, you may gain clarity and land on a couple of hands, or you may discover it’s in your best interest to abandon your original plan!

Will you know a specific hand you want to play quickly? Sometimes. But more often, it may take time to decide.

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with Mahj Garage at the AC Hotel! Everyone attending will receive a small gift. Plus, there will be small prizes for each mahjong and two raffles to round out the evening!

This event is for experienced players who want to build community at the mahjong table.

This is an open-play event for experienced mahjong players. It’s okay if you have some questions: we are here to help, but this event is focused on social gameplay.

Bring your 2026 NMJL card and Mahj Garage will provide everything else required to play.

Beverages and food are available for purchase.

Come for the tiles & games, stay for the laughs, and friendly competition.
