What a weekend. Feeling pretty blessed to do what I do.
From the Bigfoot 200 to IRONMAN 70.3 Northern California and qualifying for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, there are a lot of stories behind these accomplishments. The challenges, setbacks, hard work and ultimately exceeding some pretty big goals.
I’m grateful to be a coach and guide for the triathletes, ultra runners and Boston Marathon hopefuls I get to work with.
Proud coach. Even prouder of these athletes.

Great times coaching, pacing and helping crew Joe Higgs at Big Foot 200 in the Cascade mountains southwestern Washington ⛰️. Also hanging with his family.
Took a lot to get him here and so happy to be there seeing him finish strong and successfully exceeding his goal. Now 3x 200 miles finisher 🎉🙌🎉🙌.

Most runners skip this… and it costs them.
One of the most important strength exercises for runners is also one of the most overlooked:
Calf raises.
Every step you take while running puts a huge amount of force through your calf complex.
If your calves are weak, you’re missing a key piece of: performance, durability and injury prevention
Strong calves help with:
• propulsion (running efficiency)
• tendon health
• handling higher training loads
I’ve always programmed calf raises… but the more I coach, the more I see how important they really are.
If you’re a runner and you keep skipping calf work…
Stop doing that.

Your watch gives you data.
But can you tell how you're doing without looking at it?
One of the things I want athletes I coach to develop over time is what I call Athlete IQ.
Knowing what easy actually feels like.
Being able to recognize when your body is ready to push and when backing off is the smarter decision.
Understanding the difference between being uncomfortable and something being wrong.
Adjusting when the weather, terrain, your schedule, or even your technology doesn't cooperate.
The data matters. I use it every day as both an athlete and coach, but the goal isn't to become dependent on the numbers. It's to use those numbers to better understand your body.
Because race day rarely goes exactly according to plan.
Your watch might fail. The weather might change. Your stomach might not cooperate. Your legs might feel different than expected.
That's when Athlete IQ matters.
Great coaching shouldn't just make you fitter. It should teach you how to become a smarter, more confident athlete.
Which of these 7 are you best at and which one still needs some work?

That tight hamstring. The burning in your lungs. The voice saying “you can’t.”
But here’s what separates high performers from everyone else:
When doubt creeps in, you redirect. Feel that muscle tightness? Shift focus to what’s working. Your glutes are firing perfectly. Your quads are strong. Your form is solid.
This isn’t about ignoring reality, it’s about choosing where you place your attention.
Because endurance isn’t just about your body’s ability to keep going. It’s your mind’s ability to push through discomfort without giving in.
The same skill that gets you through mile 20 of a marathon? That’s the exact skill that gets you through a difficult board meeting, a challenging project deadline, or any moment when you want to quit.
Train your focus like you train your body.
What’s working right now in your life that you can redirect your attention to?

You can train harder than ever... but if you're not fueling properly, you'll still hit the wall.
One of the biggest mistakes I see endurance athletes make isn't in their training, it's in their nutrition.
The good news? You don't need a complicated nutrition plan. You just need a simple fueling system that works.
In my free Fuel Smarter. Finish Strong. training, I'll show you:
✅ What to eat before workouts
✅ How to fuel during long sessions
✅ How to recover faster
✅ The simple system I use with runners and triathletes to help them stop bonking and finish strong
Comment "fuel" below and I'll send you the free training and PDF guide.
