Weekly Rankings Update!

The Baxter Boys Cross Country Team moved up to 4th after a tough meet on Saturday. We have no meets this week but have two big meets next week to try to improve our ranking again!

Boys Individuals
Max Handorf moves up to #1 in class 1A, this is the first time ever a Baxter runner has been ranked #1!!!
Maddux Tuhn is now 30th!

Girls Individual
Elsie Hauser is now 30th!

This is the first time in several years (I believe) that a Baxter Girl has been ranked, great job Elsie!

We know that it's still early in the season and there is plenty of work left to do but it awesome to get recognized!

The Baxter Boys XC Team did a great job competing in the heat and humidity today at Central College. Despite the tough conditions the guys competed hard against the larger competition.

The boys finished in 6th place out of 16 teams losing out only to Pella Christian (ranked 6th in 2A), Valley (ranked 17th in 4A), Chariton (ranked 2nd in 2A), Pella (ranked 11th) in 3A, and ADM (ranked 13th in 3A).

For us to go compete well against several large, ranked schools despite having tough conditions is incredible. I know we are going to use this meet as motivation and help us improve so when we run against some of these teams again on Sept. 19th we will beat a few more of them!

Individual results (out of 257 runners entered!)
Max - 2nd - 16:34 (best time here and beat 2A #1, and 2A #6)
Maddux - 20th - 18:01 (17 seconds faster than last year!)

Lincoln H - 60th - 19:29
Hayden - 66th - 19:42
Parker - 99th - 20:50 (90 seconds faster than last year!)

Baxter Girls XC Results from Pella

Our girls did a great job of battling the heat and humidity today. Despite imperfect conditions we had several girls run very well! If the girls are running like this today, I can't wait to see what they do in a few weeks in cooler temperatures!

Results:
The Baxter Girls finished 9th out of 17 teams. The field was stacked with several 2A and 3A schools along with Valley (largest school district in Iowa) and had over 200 runners entered!

Elsie - 22:06 - 22nd
Brylea - 24:04 - 52nd (44 second PR!)
Gwen - 25:03 - 72nd (52 second PR!)
Piper - 27:17 - 104th

The guys did absolutely incredible tonight. Numerous athletes ran well faster than they ran last year at this meet, 3 athletes ran 90 seconds or faster this year than last (Maddux, Lincoln R, Parker) We also had 7 athletes run in their first ever high school 5k, 2 of which ended up medaling. Many of these athletes worked incredibly hard this summer and is so rewarding to see their hard work pay off. We also know that we have so much potential to grow as well. I am so proud of the way they competed tonight, but also so excited to see how they continue to improve!

Great job guys!

I am so proud of the way the girls went out and competed tonight. It was special and exciting night in so many ways. Tonights meet was the first time since 2021 that the Baxter Girls Cross Country team has been able to score as a team. On top of that for 4 out of the 5 girls this was their first time ever running a cross country race. For them to have 2 medalists and finish only a few points behind a couple of ranked teams is nothing short of phenomenal. We are so proud of the effort put in and so excited by the potential this team has. This is only the start, we know all of these girls will continue to improve. This was a great start!

Great work tonight ladies!
