Knowledge đź’Ł by Doug Castleberry

If something feels off, say it. Don’t hope people notice, text them, pull them aside, ask for the 30 minutes.

Because the busy season is exactly when relationships get ignored. The coaches who seem “too locked in” usually aren’t trying to shut people out.

They’re just drowning in wins, losses, and pressure. So the move is simple:

• speak up early
• be flexible with timing
• ask for what you need clearly

That one conversation can save the relationship before it drifts.

Worth remembering.

You don’t always need the perfect plan, you need the right people to see you work.

Doug Castleberry was an English teacher and coach for 13 years, and thought his next step had to be “earned” in some big, dramatic way.

But he had already been doing the work.
Helping with lifts.
Running sessions.
Showing up like he belonged there.

That’s the part people miss. Sometimes the opportunity isn’t hiding somewhere far away, it’s already watching how you handle what’s in front of you.

Maybe the real move is to keep working where you are and let the right people notice.

Many of us think consistency is just about effort, but it’s actually about the mindset we bring to every task, whether it’s in the gym, at work, or with the kids.

In coaching, I’ve seen small routines turn into massive wins over time. It’s not about perfect conditions; it’s about showing up every day with your best. The real magic?

Your attitude and effort are completely in your control. Those habits compound, just like athletes, we need that discipline. What’s your secret to staying consistent?

Drop your tips below 👇Remember: consistency isn’t about being perfect, it’s about showing up, even on the tough days.

Keep pushing.

I was reminiscing about my favorite 90s grunge tracks; Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, stuff that really fires me up.

But here’s a surprising truth: sometimes, it’s not about what you like. It’s about internal motivation. You might not love every song on your playlist, but if you’re driven from within, nothing can stop you.

That’s what separates the casual gym goer from the dedicated athlete: mindset over playlist.

What’s your go-to song when you need that extra push?

I’ve seen it firsthand, when coaches aren’t fully committed, athletes suffer. It’s not just about showing up; it’s about being fully invested. When your focus is divided, your athletes’ safety and progress can take a hit.

But if you’re passionate about strength and conditioning, it shows in every session. Kids will push harder, learn better, and stay safe because you care.
Think about your own coaching. Do you feel fully dialed in? Or is your focus split?

Maybe it’s time to ask: how does passion influence your work?

Worth thinking about.

Here’s a secret: to grow, you gotta be a sponge, learning from everybody.

Coach Katie Guillory drops some knowledge đź’Ł here!

Real growth happens when you let go of the “I already know” mindset. Whether it’s custodians, athletes, coaches, or peers, every person has a lesson.

Train with anyone, anywhere. That’s where mastery is built, through practice, humility, and open-mindedness.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned from someone unexpected? Share below!

Coach learned that true care means telling the hard truths, lovingly but honestly.

If I let someone off easy, am I really helping them grow?

It’s about equipping people (especially kids) to handle life’s tough moments. Whether it’s adversity, bosses, or tight deadlines.

Discipline, communication, resilience; these are the real tools for success beyond the weight room.
