Dribble, shoot, score—winter youth basketball registration is now open! Keep your kids active this winter and get them in the game!

We’re changing things up this year with more ways to play:

🏀 Adding a 1st–2nd Grade Recreation League for young players ready to learn and play together

🏀 Doubling options for our older players with 3rd/4th & 5th/6th Grade Competitive Leagues for teams ready to take their game to the next level

(Stay tuned for more details about our Kindergarten basketball program!)

Whether they’re just starting out or already love the sport, we’re all about teaching basketball in a fun, supportive environment.

💪 MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: Echo Endecott!

As we count down to National Family Health & Fitness Day on September 26, we’re highlighting the instructors who keep our community moving!

A certified fitness pro, mom of five, HOKA Flyer, and trail runner (she's currently training for the Sanders Saunter trail run to support The Battle Within), Echo brings passion and encouragement to every class—no matter your fitness level.

Attention, BCK & Wellsville! We need your local lore. 👀

Every year at the Maple Leaf Gravel Grind, someone asks us: Why is it called Pork Chop Hill? And every year, we have to admit…we still don’t know!

So, longtime community members: what’s the story behind Pork Chop Hill? Tell us what you know!

And if you want to tackle this infamous hill yourself, register for MLGG—all three routes take you over Pork Chop Hill. 🚴

Did you know? BCRC has sent a staff member to the Kansas Recreation and Park Association's Tomorrow’s Leaders Institute for four years in a row—and our director, Matt, was a participant back in 2005!

That gives us a pretty unique perspective on the lasting impact of programs like this. Twenty years later, Matt is still in touch with members of his class, swapping ideas, sharing experiences, and learning from one another. Likewise, our more recent participants have built their own statewide P&R networks.

That’s the lasting impact of programs like this: connections that continue long after the program ends.

Thank you to KRPA for continuing to educate, connect, and invest in the future of parks and recreation!

🥁 MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: Regan Dodd!

As we count down to National Family Health & Fitness Day on September 26, we’re highlighting the instructors behind our fitness classes!

Regan is a Baker University faculty member and the instructor behind Drums Alive, combining movement, music, and plenty of fun!

She holds Drums Alive, Drums Alive Drumtastic, and 200-hour Yoga Teacher certifications, but she's particularly drawn to the energy, creativity, and sense of community that Drums Alive offers.

When she’s not teaching, Regan keeps active with her own daily yoga and meditation practice. Most of all, though, she simply loves to MOVE!

Come move and groove with her at a FREE Drums Alive class on Saturday, September 26 at 9:45AM at the Community Center!

Congratulations to K, our newest graduate of the Kansas Recreation and Park Association Tomorrow’s Leaders Institute!

This three-day program brings parks and recreation professionals together to learn, network, and grow as leaders. The experience wraps up with a team presentation to a mock City Council of Mayfly, KS—putting everything they’ve learned into practice ( )

K loved the opportunity to learn from fellow P&R professionals and is already thinking about how to bring those ideas back to Baldwin City and BCRC.

A big thank you to KRPA for investing in the next generation of P&R leaders. BCRC staff have participated for four years running, and we’ve seen firsthand what these opportunities can do for our team.

And thank you to our incredible board for supporting professional development and giving our staff opportunities to keep learning and growing!

🌟 MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: Ashley Byrd!

As we count down to National Family Health & Fitness Day on September 26, we’re introducing you to the instructors behind our fitness classes!

Ashley teaches PiYo, a class she first discovered at her hometown YMCA in 2017. She loved the physical and mental challenge so much that when the instructor left, Ashley got certified and took over!

A preschool teacher and mom of three, Ashley says PiYo gives her a chance to hit pause and focus on just one thing—the mat!

Ashley is also a certified water safety instructor and lifeguard, coaching the Barracudas Swim Team and working as a lifeguard during the summer.

Her favorite way to stay active? Walking 3-4 miles per day—she uses the time to catch up on a phone call, listen to an audiobook or podcast, or enjoy some quiet time.

Want to give PiYo a try? Join Ashley for a FREE class Saturday, September 26 at 8:30AM! 💪
