This is what training to be more athletic sounds like

At the field, we did sprint contrasts using the .tapex

sharp15 had the fastest 10yd+10yd fly time at 1.06 šŸ”„

Left the field and hit 7-Eleven so we could replenish glycogen stores and hit the weight room FULLY SATURATED

At the training facility we hit broad jumps, pause hack squat, and some accessories

Glorious day

APEX ATX performance review .official

Let’s start with the data:

FAST FORTY: 4.54
THE TOSS: 65 ft
THE BROAD: 9’9ā€
THE VERT: 39.5ā€
THE PULL: 15 reps
THE PUSH: 10 reps
THE MILE: 7:15

APEX SCORE: 586
20th out of 62

The good: My FAST FORTY and vert went really well. Also, honestly, THE MILE went WAY better than I thought it was going to 🤣

I did the absolute bare minimum to prepare for it, so I’m really going to commit to getting fitter between now and the next competition. I think I can go 6:30 next time

The meh: My med ball toss and broad jump didn’t go nearly as well as I was anticipating. I really feel like I can go over 68 feet on the toss and 10+ feet on the broad

The bad: My strength was abysmal

Believe it or not, this was my first time bench pressing 225 in over two years šŸ‘€

My shoulder has only very recently gotten to a place where I can bench press again. In the weeks leading up to the competition, I was working my way back up to 225 pounds and only ever made it to 205 lol

Also, not gonna lie, I didn’t train for THE PULL at all..and it showed šŸ˜…

I really think between now and the next time I compete, I can go 15+ on bench and 25+ on trap bar just from actually doing them in training and prioritizing them

My overall goal is to take my APEX SCORE from 586 to 650+ at the next competition, which would have placed me top 10 at APEX ATX

And if I hit all my targets for every event, I should be at 680+, which would have placed me top 3

We’ll see, there’s only one way to find out..go compete!!!

Finally!!! I’ve got something to train for!!

I’m proud to say I’m an APEX ATHLETE .official

The competition, community, camaraderie, and sense of belonging I felt this past weekend at APEX ATX was something I hadn’t felt in a long time

Growing up, sports were always my safe place

No matter how chaotic or messed up things got, I could always go to practice or look forward to a game

That feeling of being part of a team..

Being around other people who had the same goals as you

Competing against them in games and alongside them in practice

I’ve desperately missed that for so long

I think that’s why I became a coach

For so long, I filled that void by being one of the guys in the group, pushing my athletes to new heights, training alongside them, and continuing to train like an athlete myself…mostly on my own

Sprinting, jumping, constantly pushing myself to see what I’m physically capable of

I just never had something to channel that toward

Something to pursue

A way to attach the process I love so much to a real test

I once heard someone say ā€œhappiness is having something to look forward toā€

I’ve found that in APEX

Because now…I FINALLY have something to train for 😤
