Give your youth a solid foundation
- Endurance Training Opportunity
The most important reason for our continued interest in Endurance racing over these past 35 years, is people.
Horses were always an ongoing challenge. Finding the heart in a race-winning horse takes time—learning never to push too early, but eventually testing the horse to expose their character and see what they are made of in Endurance. The ones that have proven themselves to us, we have committed that they will never be sold; they remain with us, living out their days on this ranch in Texas.
That is all we have to say about horses. However, the other component in this sport is the humans, and this component is a lot more complex than the horses. We probably have five people and five horses that can match up together to partner in winning a race. One of them is arguably the best in the country: Jenna
Here is what it is all about: our four young adults, affectionately known to us as a group called “The Squeegees,” most of whom have been involved with Endurance racing since they were 10 years old. Over a year ago, we lost John as a racer to another part of our ranch. He is now doing farrier work over East Texas, and specifically working on our own home horses at the ranch. At 16 years old, he has found his place at home learning a trade, but at one time he was a serious Endurance racer sponsored by one of the Harrison sisters with his then-horse, Hallelujah.
That leaves three 14-year-old girls to be sponsored at as many races as we can find within our reach:
• Melisa: Laura Rye—mama of Melisa—has supported her growth in Endurance these past years, allowing Melisa to experience great success on her mare, Victory. This includes her recent win at the 50-mile Spanish Peaks ride in Colorado. Keep in mind they cannot ride without a sponsor, so this sponsor needs to be pretty good to keep up with these girls. Her sponsor there was Jenna.
• Sophie: Renee—mama to Sophie—helped Sophie gain much experience in the sport of Endurance by allowing her to compete on her personal horse, April; Sophie also winning at the 50-mile level with her. Now Sophie has her own young, up-and-coming mare named Ellie that she has been training and conditioning this summer to get ready for her first 25-mile race in October. She knows how to build a relationship with a horse and clearly will be an excellent horse whisperer.
• Shelby: Patti- Mama to Shelby-introduced her daughter, into Endurance just one year ago on her own Arabian gelding, Pavarotti. Shelby will be joining us at the ranch full-time to train and compete with us this fall. She joins us having already won races with her boy.
If you have a 14-year-old, or thereabouts, who is still living in "Lala Land" but has an interest in horses, there may be a fit for us to mentor them in Endurance with the support of their mamas. If you have a living-quarters trailer and are not intimidated to ride a well-trained horse over open country alongside your child, then reach out and call Jenna Harrison to learn more about what we have to offer you. If you want to build a foundation for a young person to start out a good life, this offer has all the ingredients.
