Sign up today! Logistics Lab: Planning & Producing Creative Workshops. Tuesdays, September 29-November 3, 6-8pm. Online via Zoom. Facilitated by Alli Marshall.

🌱 This six-week series is for the beginner to seasoned facilitator, offering practical skill-based learning such as finding community event space, pitching your creative offering, imposter syndrome and self-promotion, along with marketing and community outreach. This is for arts-based creative entrepreneurs who plan to add workshops, playshops, and other educational experiences to their offerings.

⚙️Logistics Lab is geared toward entrepreneurs in the Western North Carolina community working in arts-based fields such as visual arts, writing, music, craft, and healing modalities. ��

🌸 The workshop’s goal is to nurture a support network for facilitators and arts-based entrepreneurs who are designing and leading workshops as part of their offerings, and aims to provide a means of connection, accountability, coaching, and ongoing educational and business-related resources.

New workshop coming up: Writing from the Body, facilitated by Tori Allenspach. Held Wednesday, 6:30-8:30pm, October 21-November 18, in-person at Story Parlor.

🌿This 5-week series will offer you a powerful, new approach to discovering story— one of bones and flesh. Our bodies hold innate wisdom and memory that we cannot access with the thinking mind. Through beginner-level, somatic and yogic practices, we'll connect with the wild world beneath the brain to explore how this connection acts as an opening to easy, more authentic creative writing.

Mary Caroline Richards — aka M.C. — was a poet, potter, and writer known for her 1970 book "Centering: in Pottery, Poetry and the Person." She was also one of the most popular faculty members of the famed Black Mountain College where she taught from 1945-1951.

While at BMC, M.C. and her students formed the Black Mountain Press which published, among other titles, M.C.'s first book of collected poems. After BMC, M.C. moved to New York City with composer David Tudor. They joined John Cage and Merce Cunningham, and collaborated with others such as Ray Johnson, Robert Rauschenberg, Susan Weil, Paul Taylor, and Viola Farber.

Today, as inspiration, we offer up the words, ideas, and writing — and whole life, really — of M.C. Richards. Open your windows of irrelevance wide, friends, so poetry may enter!

Step Into Your Story is an immersive retreat for writers, artists, seekers, and curious humans interested in exploring the narratives that shape their lives and creative work. Through workshops, storytelling, writing, reflection, and community, we'll journey through memory, imagination, archetype, play, and possibility, listening for the deeper stories beneath the surface and the emerging stories calling us forward.

This full-bodied, approachable poetry class will guide you from "Ooof, poetry" to "Where's my journal?!" by cultivating attention. We'll take notice of neon color palettes, everyday coffee-shop conversation, rhythmic twitches in the body, the gruff and warm-hearted voice of life, and see what happens when we revolutionize those notice-ings into language. Weaving together exploration of poetic elements + form, guided discussion, and past poetic works, we'll build a fun, creative play space! Plus, writing time to build confidence and craft. This class immerses itself in artful experimentation and skill building. It's the ultimate permission slip to be a beginner or to rediscover.

It feels that we're on a losing streak — losing so many of our elder creative inspirations and guides. But fortunately they leave behind their work. Their words and songs and ideas continue to serve as wayfinders for we who are still on our own creative paths.

As the poet Wendell Barry wrote, "when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey."

Hail the traveler! And hail all who journey inward and artward today and every day!
