Sometimes things happen when you least expect it and you know there is no doubt that it was not just a coincidence…

Meet Jewels, a 15 year old Belgian who is as sweet and gentle as they come; making her a steady trail horse and partner for therapeutic riding, both jobs she has on her resume. Unfortunately she found herself in a not so good situation at no fault of her own, luckily she was recognized, saved, and miraculously made it back to people who dearly love her. Although she had recently been in a great place, her family felt she needed to be somewhere she could get more attention and be a part of helping more people again. When they reached out to Daring Greatly we felt honored to give her a home. She has settled in nicely and was in her very first session with first responders a few weeks ago. Little did we know God still was working through her story. It was mentioned that she had been a trail horse at Brown County State Park. One of the officers recalled a trail ride experience to Brown County years ago and that him and his wife still talk about. Interestingly, the horse he rode “looked similar to Jewels but they called her Julie.” He then searched his phone for pictures and there HE was RIDING JEWELS (aka Julie) in August 2020, 6 years ago!!!! A lot can happen, and did happen, in both of these lives in 6 years but God put both right there in our arena for Jewels’ first session with first responders. What are the odds?!?! Of all the horses, all the programs, all the “what if’s” that could have happened to take them off this path here…, there she was waiting at the barn for an ‘ol friend to give this equine wellness thing a try.

Needless to say it touched all our hearts in ways none of us were prepared for when we woke up that morning. This officer gave permission to share a few photos. Him and his wife were able to join us at the Barn Bash where this story was shared. It was not lost on us that as it was being shared she was the ONLY horse standing in the ONLY corner of the lot that could be seen from the arena where the event was taking place. She stood there content throughout the rest of the evening.

Sometimes you don’t know if you are on the right path, you desperately try to look for the glimmers and signs to figure out if you are where you are supposed to be…. other times God places something right there so BIG, like a beautiful Belgian draft horse, and there is no denying that He is working through lives of people and horses alike and everyone was right where they were supposed to be.

It’s hard to put into words to describe our first Barn Bash. It was incredibly special for so many reasons… from the herd greeting everyone, to eating delicious food, sharing fancy desserts, heartfelt testimonials of horses changing lives, stories of how God works though the horses, the beautiful sunset, the full moon shining, the bald eagle flying over, the fun had playing the manes and tails raffle, the energy the band brought, the laughter shared line dancing, time spent connecting with friends, first responders enjoying themselves, and most of all the generosity and the love that completely FILLED the arena.

We like to say the arena is your world, Saturday evening our world was truly a BEAUTIFUL place!!!

To our guests, participants, sponsors, first responders, friends, volunteers, donors, vendors, neighbors, prayer warriors and of course our horses, THANK YOU for being a part of our herd 🤠🤍🐴

What an honor it is to share our horses with so many amazing people!
