Getting ready for the upcoming season requires planning for travel, last season was a bit confusing figuring out how far to go and just trying to gain experience. With any luck this season will go smoother and we will have a better outcome. 🤞🤞

While tracking teams across the nation gear up for deer season, some seasoned veterans, some just starting out, don’t forget about the new deer tracking teams and the handlers who are putting in the time to build their dogs and gain experience we all started out new. A dog can’t read a piece of paper, a title, or a list of accomplishments—and he certainly doesn’t care about being judged. A well-trained deer tracking dog has one goal when he steps onto a track: find the downed deer as quick as possible. Experience matters, but so does dedication, training, teamwork, and the determination to get the job done. Give the new teams a chance—you might be surprised by what they can accomplish when it matters most.
This will be Clydes second year tracking and we hope to get out and help as many hunters as we can! 🦌🎯

With deer season quickly approaching, this will be Clydes second season of tracking. He absolutely loved it last year, he loves training, and has matured very well mentally & physically over the last few months.

At almost 2 he's growing out of his baby brain and really starting to put everything together in terms of slowing down and focusing on his job.

I cannot wait to see him do what he loves to do this season. 🦌🎯

Long before the Labrador ever had its name, its ancestors were hauling themselves out of the freezing North Atlantic with a fisherman's catch. 🌊

In the harbors of Newfoundland, a hardy little working dog called the St. John's water dog swam beside cod fishermen, retrieving fish that slipped the hook and dragging lines and ropes in from the icy water. Its dense double coat and thick, tapering tail were built for exactly this life.

That tail, later nicknamed the otter tail, worked like a rudder, and the water repellent coat shrugged off the cold. Nearly everything we love about a modern Lab in the water was forged on that rugged coast. 🎣

It is humbling to think today's goofy water lover descends from a genuine working sailor's dog. I wonder what those old fishermen would make of the breed now.
