Lady Mustangs Capture Runner-Up Honors at First Priority Tournament
The Lady Mustangs traveled down I-75 early Saturday morning for the First Priority Tournament at Whitley County, Kentucky, and delivered an impressive day of volleyball. The Lady Stangs now improved their record to 26-2 on the season. After battling through six matches, the Mustangs finished 5-1 and brought home the tournament runner-up trophy.

The only blemish on the day came in the championship match against the 18th-ranked Whitley County Colonels. Whitley County edged the Mustangs 25-17, 25-18 in a highly anticipated final between two outstanding teams. Despite the loss, the Lady Mustangs competed with tremendous energy, intensity and determination throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to junior libero Grace Frommeyer and sophomore Evelyn Laker, who were both named to the First Priority All-Tournament Team.

The Mustangs opened pool play with a dominant 25-16, 25-7 victory over Pulaski County. They followed that performance with another strong win, defeating Campbell County, Tennessee, 25-15, 25-10. In their final pool-play match, the Mustangs defeated Bell County 25-14, 25-19 to finish 3-0 and earn the second seed heading into tournament play.

With the top eight teams advancing to the Gold Bracket, the Mustangs continued their run at 5:00 p.m. against Breathitt County. The girls controlled the match from the opening serve, earning a 25-17, 25-15 victory and advancing to the tournament’s Final Four.

In the semifinal, the Mustangs faced Wayne County and again played with confidence on both sides of the net. They earned a convincing victory, winning 25-11 and 25-__ to punch their ticket to the championship match.

The finals featured a matchup between two of the tournament’s top teams: the 26-1 Lady Mustangs and the 20-1 Whitley County Colonels. The championship match featured outstanding rallies, powerful attacks, timely blocks and relentless defensive play from both teams.

The Mustangs’ offense was led by sophomores Evelyn Laker and Emma Sheanshang; seniors Callie Ritter, Hailey Heitker, Leah Robinson, Claire Decker and Sienna Studer; and freshman sensation Audrey Arnold. The Lady Mustangs consistently created pressure at the net with aggressive swings, smart shot selection and strong teamwork. It wasn't without the 5 year starting setter Aubrey Rebholz at quarterback leading and directing the team with her great sets all over the court.

Defensively, junior libero Grace Frommeyer anchored the back row with steady passing and impressive floor coverage. Senior Josie Reckner had lots of service aces on the day and was steller on defense all tournament. Freshman Aubrey Arnold also made key defensive plays, while Laker contributed with strong all-around play. The Mustangs’ effort in serve receive, transition defense and extended rallies helped propel them through a demanding day of competition.

The Lady Mustangs fought hard from the first serve until the final point, showing the toughness, discipline and competitive spirit that have made this team one of the best in their region. Their 5-1 finish and runner-up performance against the 18th-ranked Colonels capped an outstanding tournament run.

Congratulations to the Lady Mustangs on an incredible day of volleyball as they look forward to a busy next week with 5th team in the State of Kentucky at 20-2 Beechwood, then Thursday the rivalry vs 15-7 Newport Central Catholic on Hits for Chicks Night which should have a lot of emotion for both teams.

Lady Stangs are on a roll win pool play 3-0 and onto the one and done tournament with 8 teams left. They beat Bell County 25-14, 25-19. The Lady Stangs are now 24-1 on the season.

Mustangs Cruise Past Dixie Heights on First Responders Night
BROSSART — The Brossart Mustangs continued their remarkable season Thursday night, sweeping Dixie Heights, 25-18, 25-12, 25-16, on First Responders Night.

With the victory, the Lady Stangs improved to 21-1 on the season and once again proved that while the weather may be cold and rainy outside, it is always “72 and sunny” inside the gym.

Brossart came out firing in the opening set, quickly establishing a 7-2 advantage behind a service ace from senior setter Aubrey Rebholz and steady defensive work from junior libero Grace Frommeyer. Frommeyer repeatedly kept points alive with diving digs, allowing Rebholz to distribute the ball to Brossart’s powerful lineup.

Sophomore Emma Sheanshang converted a kill off a Rebholz set to extend the lead to 8-2, while sophomore Evelyn Laker added a soaring kill during a long rally to make it 9-3. Senior Leah Robinson and Sheanshang continued to deliver kills as the Mustangs maintained control.

Dixie Heights mounted a late rally and trimmed the Brossart lead to 16-15, prompting head coach Danielle French to call timeout. Whatever French said during the break worked immediately. The Mustangs closed the set on a 9-3 run, highlighted by service aces from Laker and a kill from senior Hailey Heitker.

Laker’s final ace secured the first set, 25-18.

The Mustangs dominated from the start of the second set, jumping ahead 5-1 behind service aces from freshman Audrey Arnold and a kill from senior Callie Ritter. Arnold continued to make an impact from every area of the court, contributing both defensively and offensively.

Ritter, Brossart’s all-time block leader, added a key block to push the lead to 6-2. Arnold later delivered a perfectly placed kill off a back set from Rebholz who is Brossart All time assist leader, and Laker added another powerful attack as the Mustangs stretched their advantage to 11-2.

Brossart’s serve-receive game remained sharp, with senior Josie Reckner and Frommeyer providing excellent first contacts. Those passes gave Rebholz plenty of options, and she repeatedly found Ritter, Laker, Robinson, Sheanshang and Heitker for kills.

Two consecutive Arnold aces pushed the score to 22-9, and Ritter followed with another block. After a final kill from Ritter brought the Mustangs to set point, she ended the frame emphatically with a stuff block, giving Brossart a 25-12 win and a two-set lead.

Dixie Heights came out with renewed energy in the third set, taking an early 1-0 lead. The Mustangs answered with kills from Ritter and Sheanshang, along with an ace from Rebholz, to keep the set competitive.

The teams battled through several lead changes before Brossart began to gain separation. Laker tied the score at 7-7 with a block, while Ritter and Sheanshang continued to find open space along the net. A Ritter service ace put the Mustangs in front, 14-13.

Frommeyer again delivered a crucial serve-receive play, allowing Rebholz to set Sheanshang for a crushing kill that tied the set at 15-15. Moments later, Rebholz connected with Heitker for another kill, giving Brossart an 18-15 advantage.

Reckner then took over from the service line, recording back-to-back aces to help the Mustangs build a 20-15 lead. Ritter added another kill and a block, while Heitker delivered a powerful swing to make it match point at 24-16.

The final point fittingly showcased Brossart’s defensive-to-offensive transition. Frommeyer dug the ball, Rebholz delivered the set, and Ritter finished the match with a decisive kill.

The 25-16 third-set victory completed the sweep and sent the Mustangs to their 21st win of the season.

Frommeyer’s relentless floor defense, Rebholz’s precise setting, Brossart’s strong serve receive and a balanced attack at the net powered the victory. French also received praise for keeping her team composed and focused during Dixie Heights’ rallies.

The Mustangs now move forward with momentum, confidence and another impressive win in an unforgettable season. Clean sweep as both the Freshman and JV teams win as well.

Lady Mustangs are now 2-0 in Ohio, Improve to 20-1 on the season.
Batavia, Ohio — The Lady Mustangs continued their impressive season Tuesday night, traveling to Ohio and sweeping the Batavia Bulldogs in straight sets, 25-12, 25-10, 25-16.

With the victory, the Lady Stangs improved to 20-1 on the season and never trailed at any point in the match. From the opening serve to the final kill, the Lady Mustangs controlled the tempo, executed their offense and kept Batavia scrambling to find an answer.

First Set: Fast Start Sets the Tone
The Lady Mustangs wasted little time establishing themselves, jumping out to a quick 6-0 advantage and forcing Batavia to use a timeout.

Freshman sensation Audrey Arnold got the night started with a dig to senior setter Aubrey Rebholz, who delivered the assist to sophomore Evelyn Laker for the kill and a 1-0 lead.

Arnold then followed with a service ace as the Lady Stangs moved ahead 3-0.

The senior trio of Josie Reckner, Rebholz and Callie Ritter then connected for another point. Reckner handled the serve receive, Rebholz set Ritter, and Ritter put the ball away for a 5-0 advantage.

Arnold again came through defensively with a dig to Rebholz, who set Ritter for another kill and an 8-1 lead. A tough serve from Rebholz forced Batavia into a diving defensive play, but the ball came right back to a waiting Ritter, who delivered another kill.

Batavia called timeout, but the break did little to slow the Lady Stangs.

Laker added another kill off a serve-receive ball from junior libero Grace Frommeyer, who sent the ball to Rebholz for the assist. Sophomore Emma Sheanshang then produced a kill off a rare assist from Ritter, following a dig from Rebholz, as the Lady Stangs continued to build their cushion.

Laker added a service ace to make it 14-3.

Senior Leah Robinson later got into the scoring column with a kill off a Frommeyer serve receive and Rebholz assist, pushing the lead to 17-8. Ritter followed with another kill from Rebholz to make it 18-8.

Reckner then delivered the serve receive to Rebholz, who once again found Ritter for the kill and a 19-9 advantage.

Frommeyer kept the offense moving with a dig to Rebholz, who set Laker for a 20-9 lead. Arnold then came through defensively again, digging a ball to Rebholz, who assisted Laker for another kill and a 23-10 advantage.

Sheanshang recorded another kill off a Rebholz assist, and a Batavia error closed out the opening set, 25-12, giving the Lady Mustangs a 1-0 match lead.

Second Set: More of the Same
The second set followed much of the same script as the Lady Stangs quickly grabbed control and never looked back.

Ritter opened the scoring with a kill off a serve-receive ball from Laker and an assist from Rebholz.

Frommeyer then dug a ball to Rebholz, who set Laker for the kill and a 2-0 lead. Laker followed with another quick kill after a dig from Laker went to Rebholz and back to Laker, making it 3-0.

Arnold then made an impact from the back row, digging a ball that Rebholz sent to Arnold for a kill and a 4-0 advantage.

Frommeyer again provided the defensive spark with a dig to Rebholz, who set Laker for another kill and a 5-0 lead.

Laker added another kill off the Rebholz assist following an Arnold dig, putting the Lady Stangs ahead 6-1.

Robinson then delivered one of the defensive highlights of the night, producing a monster block that dropped straight to the floor for a 10-3 advantage.

Frommeyer continued to anchor the back row before sending a dig to Rebholz, who set Robinson for a kill and an 11-3 lead.

Heitker then got into the attack, recording a kill off a Laker dig and Rebholz assist for a 12-6 advantage.

Reckner added a service ace to push the lead to 13-6, while Laker and Heitker continued to find success offensively.

Another Frommeyer dig went to Rebholz, who set Heitker for a 15-6 lead. Ritter then added another big block as the Lady Stangs stretched their advantage to 16-7.

Heitker continued her strong play at the net, putting away another kill off a Frommeyer serve receive and Rebholz assist for an 18-8 lead.

A dig by Rebholz went to Frommeyer, who helped set up Laker for the kill and a 19-8 advantage, forcing another Batavia timeout.

The timeout could not slow the Lady Stangs.

Reckner dug the ball to Rebholz, who set Laker for another kill and a 21-9 lead. Rebholz then added a service ace, making it 22-9.

Frommeyer delivered another dig to Rebholz, who produced a perfect assist to Laker for a 23-9 advantage.

Laker finished the set with yet another kill off a fantastic Rebholz assist, closing out the second set 25-10 and putting the Lady Stangs one set away from the sweep.

Third Set: Finish the Job
The Lady Mustangs came out firing in the third set.

Arnold started the scoring with a dig to Rebholz, who set Ritter for the kill and a 1-0 lead.

Laker then followed with a kill after a dig and set combination, making it 2-0.

Batavia answered with a kill to make it 2-1, but the Lady Stangs quickly regained control.

Laker struck again off a dig from Rebholz and a set from Robinson, giving the Lady Stangs a 4-2 lead. Another Laker kill off a Robinson assist extended the advantage to 6-2.

Arnold once again made a key defensive play, digging to Rebholz, who found Laker to make it 7-2.

Heitker then added a kill to push the score to 11-3.

Reckner moved to the front row and immediately made an impact, delivering a kill off a Rebholz assist following a Laker dig for a 12-4 lead.

Heitker followed with another kill to make it 13-4.

Frommeyer continued to patrol the back row, digging to Rebholz, who set Robinson for a powerful kill and a 14-4 advantage.

Heitker added another kill as the Lady Stangs continued to control the net.

Another Frommeyer dig found Rebholz, who set Heitker for a kill and a 15-4 lead. The same combination struck again moments later, with Frommeyer digging to Rebholz and Heitker finishing the rally for a 16-5 advantage.

Ritter then delivered a kill off a Laker dig and Rebholz assist to make it 17-10.

Arnold added a service ace, and Ritter followed with an incredible block to make it 19-10.

Ritter struck again with a kill off an Arnold dig and Rebholz assist, pushing the score to 20-10.

Reckner then handled serve receive before Rebholz found Ritter for another kill and a 21-11 advantage.

Ritter added a service ace to move the Lady Stangs to 23-12.

With the sweep within reach, Frommeyer dug another ball to Rebholz, who delivered the assist to Robinson for a powerful kill and match point at 24-15.

On the final rally, the ball clipped the net before Robinson kept the play alive and got it to Rebholz. Rebholz then found Heitker, who finished the match with the final kill.

The ball hit the floor, the final whistle sounded, and the Lady Mustangs had completed the sweep, 25-12, 25-10, 25-16.

20-1 and Rolling
The Lady Mustangs' latest victory was another complete team effort, with strong serving, relentless back-row defense, precise setting and a balanced attack at the net.

Arnold, Frommeyer and Reckner repeatedly kept rallies alive with digs and serve-receive plays, while Rebholz orchestrated the offense from the setter position. Laker, Ritter, Robinson, Heitker and Sheanshang consistently converted those opportunities into kills, while the Lady Stangs' blocking game added another layer of pressure at the net.

Most importantly, the Lady Mustangs never surrendered the lead.

Three sets, three wins and another sweep added to the record.

The Lady Mustangs are now 20-1 on the season and continuing to serve notice across the court. The JV team won again as they took two from Batavia.
