Huge congratulations to Fat Tire Cycles’ own Javier Pedroza for taking the win at this week’s ABQ Tuesday Night Crit! 🏆

Many of our customers know Javi as one of the friendly faces behind the counter and a wealth of cycling knowledge, but he’s also a talented racer with a deep history in the sport. After years away from competition, he pinned on a number, lined up, and rode straight to the top step of the podium.

It was also great seeing local athletes like Kyle Step and the rest of the podium finishers representing Albuquerque’s strong cycling community.

Congrats again, Javi. We’re proud to have you as part of the Fat Tire Cycles family! 🚴🔥

Happy Technician Tuesday from our Montaño location.

As we continue rolling through our amazing mechanics, next in line is Ray Chavez.

Ray is a homegrown New Mexican who started racing BMX bikes in eighth grade and has been wrenching on a wide range of bikes ever since. From his BMX racing background, he has grown a true love for BMX, dirt jumps, outdoor adventures, cross-country riding, and now, he is diving into the world of gravel bikes.

Throughout his mechanic career, Ray has worked at several local bike shops here in Albuquerque, and we are extremely blessed to have his knowledge and expertise here at Fat Tire Cycles Montaño. Whether you need a quick fix, a full tune, or just some solid bike advice, Ray is here to help keep you rolling.

If you see him out at the dirt park, on the trails, or cruising the gravel roads, make sure you say hello and pick his brain. He brings tons of knowledge from both racing and wrenching.

And remember, when paying your tabs, don’t forget to tip these amazing technicians.

Happy Thankful Tuesday.

Fat Tire Cycles is a huge advocate for supporting and sponsoring athletes in any way we can. We are proud to support our main team, 505 Cycles presented by Fat Tire. Many of you have probably seen them riding around New Mexico at local and national races, representing the cycling community and Fat Tire Cycles in an awesome way.

This guy right here is the true epitome of selfless service. After a tenured career in the Air Force, followed by several other government roles, Scott Skirch has continued to dedicate his time to serving the local community as a police officer.

On top of all that, Scott has spent time on and off working with us whenever Fat Tire really needed help. He has worked at all of our locations, sharing his bike knowledge and expertise with customers, while also helping mentor staff along the way. Even now, when he stops by the shop, he is always walking around, helping customers, answering questions, and getting people rolling on bikes.

Scott also leads the majority of our gravel, road, and mountain bike rides whenever he can squeeze it into his busy schedule. He is a father of two awesome kids, one of whom works at our Corrales location, and he continues to be an amazing representative of everything we love about this cycling community.

Scott Skirch is an amazing individual, and we are proud to support him. Congrats on all your accomplishments and races. Keep crushing this season.

As we continue this Maintenance Monday highlighting our awesome mechanics, next up is one of our most tenured and respected wrenches, Sjouke (pronounced Shokee).

Sjouke is a true legend in the cycling community. He has been part of the Fat Tire Cycles family for more than 22 years and has spent over 30 years turning wrenches on bikes. His experience, knowledge, and dedication have helped keep countless riders rolling throughout New Mexico.

While many know Sjouke as an incredible mechanic, his passion for helping others extends far beyond the bike shop. During the school year, he serves as one of the area’s most respected math teachers, dedicating his time to helping the next generation learn, grow, and succeed. When summer arrives, he brings that same passion for helping people to Fat Tire Cycles, making sure riders are ready to get out and enjoy the roads, trails, and adventures that make cycling so special.

A devoted family man, Sjouke loves spending time outdoors with his family. You’ll often find him out on road rides, pulling his youngest daughter in a bike trailer while creating memories on two wheels. When he’s not riding, he’s also an avid skateboarder and snowboarder who enjoys staying active year round.

We are incredibly fortunate to have someone with Sjouke’s experience, character, and dedication on our team. If you stop by the shop and see him, make sure to say hello and pick his brain. With decades of experience in cycling, education, and life, there’s a good chance you’ll learn something valuable.
