KAMPALA —The Director of Mobilization for the Patriotic League of Uganda, Hon. Michael Mawanda, today welcomed leaders of the Uganda Liberal Teachers Union on a courtesy call at the PLU Chairman's Office in Nakasero, where the union pledged full support to PLU's patriotic vision of strengthening structures and mobilizing communities.

Police in Nansana have arrested a 17-year-old barmaid over the suspected murder of her two-week-old baby.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the teenager allegedly threw the newborn into a pit latrine at Katooke B in Nansana Municipality.

The pit latrine belonged to the suspect’s landlady.

Ms Kawala told journalists on Monday that the teenager had been staying in a friend’s room when the incident occurred on August 27, 2026.

The case came to light on August 29 after residents questioned the whereabouts of the baby. They had received reports that the teenager had given birth.

During questioning, the suspect told police that she had become overwhelmed by the baby’s poor health and a lack of food.

“She stated that she had become overwhelmed by the baby’s health condition, hunger and uncertainty about identity of the bays father,” Kawala said

She also cited uncertainty about the identity of the child’s father.

Police said the teenager had worked at a bar in Nansana before her arrest.

Officers retrieved the baby’s body from the pit latrine and took it to Mulago hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police are holding the teenager as investigations continue. She had not been charged by the time of publication.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has warned aspirants in the Adjumani West by-election against violence and electoral misconduct ahead of this week's primaries to elect the party flagbearer.

In a press conference held today, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, said any attempt by the aspirants to rig or incite violence shall attract serious concequences including disqualification.

"The Commission will take firm action against any aspirant found engaging in misconduct, stressing that evidence of sectarianism, intimidation, bribery, or attempts to manipulate the electoral process would attract disciplinary measures, including possible disqualification," Dr Tanga said.

The aged Mukonzo woman in Kasese District has tragically killed herself by hanging for a yet unknown reason, an incident that has left the entire community in deep grief and disbelief.

The deceased has been identified as Mbambu Susana, 78, a long-time resident of Mumbuzi Cell, Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, and a known peasant by occupation.

The unfortunate incident occurred on August 31, 2026, at an unknown time, with the deceased’s lifeless body discovered by her son-in-law, Thembo Expedito Mwirima, hanging inside her bedroom.

Sources indicate that the deceased, Susana, had been staying with her daughter Mbambu Margo, the wife of Thembo Expedito, at their residence in Mumbuzi Cell, in Kasese Municipality.

At around 6:00 AM that fateful morning, local LC I Chairperson Mbambu Annet Kule received a distress call from Thembo, reporting that his mother-in-law, whom he lived with, had killed herself.

The chairperson immediately alerted the Local Council one defence secretary, Kimbesa Nalson, who swiftly reported the matter to Kasese Police to facilitate prompt intervention and management of the scene.

The Rwenzori East Regional Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that upon receiving the distress call, officers acted immediately, filed an official report, and deployed a team of homicide detectives to the scene.

Meanwhile, SOCO personnel visited and examined the location, where preliminary evidence shows the deceased was found hanging from cloth in a modest single-room dwelling divided into a shop and a sleeping area.

“We received this bad news early this morning, and our officers were promptly dispatched to the scene for examination and documentation. The body was discovered suspended by a piece of cloth inside a single-room structure divided into a shop and a sleeping area,” Maate noted.

He added that the body was carefully retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kasese Municipal Health Centre for postmortem

Police in Kassanda District are investigating the murder of 33-year-old Mwesige Godfrey, who was found strangled and dumped in a pit.

The incident was reported by his mother, Faith Nakazibwe.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Mwesige and his mother had previously filed a case of threatening violence before Kitagonerwa village LC1 chairperson, Ssebatta Kizito, accusing neighbours Badru Mukuye, Dafiki, and Turyagyenda of threatening to harm them

The Sub-county Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Amugu Town Council, Joseph Olwit, alongside two others, is being held at Alebtong Central Police Station for allegedly disrupting a national sanitation exercise earlier today.

According to Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Geoffrey Okiswa, the district-wide exercise was disrupted in Amugu Town Council after Olwit allegedly held a meeting with LC1 chairpersons during the designated three-hour cleanup window. Police subsequently arrested GISO Joseph Olwit, Acek Ward Town Agent Levi Odongo, and the LC1 Chairperson of Akisim Cell. The trio is detained under SD Ref. No. 04/29/08/2026 as investigations proceed.

Speaking to Unity FM, RDC Okiswa and Assistant RDC Jimmy Okello condemned the suspects' actions, emphasizing that public sanitation exercises are vital for disease prevention and public health across Uganda. They warned that security agencies will continue to arrest anyone who attempts to sabotage government programs.

The Uganda Police Force has registered and commenced investigations into a shooting incident that occurred on 29 August 2026 at at around 7:30 a.m. at Ndejje Kanaaba, within Katwe Police Division.
Preliminary information indicates that police officers from Ndejje Police Station had been deployed to provide security during the National Cleaning Day community exercise in the area.

It is alleged that a boda boda rider attempted to force his way through a secured area while riding his motorcycle. In circumstances that are now under investigation, the rider was allegedly shot by Police Constable Allan Okello a police officer attached to Ndejje Police Station.
The officer has been arrested, and investigations are underway to establish the circumstances under which he discharged his firearm, resulting in the death of the rider.

The deceased has been preliminarily identified through a National Identification Card as Kizito Ronald Jjuuko, a 38-year-old male adult.

The Uganda Police Force expresses its condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased. While police officers are legally mandated to maintain public order and protect life and property, any use of force must be lawful, necessary, proportionate, and strictly guided by the law, established police operational procedures, and the prevailing circumstances.

A 53-year-old man in Amolatar District has reported his 51-year-old wife to the police after she went 10 days without eating food, claiming the Holy Spirit instructed her not to eat.

Micheal Omila, a resident of Odyak village in Odyak Parish, Muntu Sub-county, filed a case at Amolatar Central Police Station (CPS) against his wife, Nancy Omila, who has been fasting for 10 consecutive days.

Omila told police that he filed the report to establish evidence in case she dies from the prolonged hunger strike, so he is not held responsible for her death.

Omila revealed that his wife is a well-known born again Christian who consistently rejects government programs. She has been arrested by police three times: in 2024 for refusing to be enumerated during the national census, and in 2021 for rejecting COVID-19 vaccination, claiming it was satanic.

When interviewed, Nancy Omila stated that God instructed her not to use Ugandan currency, send her children to school, seek medical treatment at health facilities, or use tap water. She added that she only bathes when it rains, maintaining that all government systems are satanic.

She further claimed that in 2021, after giving birth to five children, God ordered her to leave her husband, resulting in six years of marital separation without intimate relations, a vow she intends to keep until the end of time.

Nancy expressed belief that she is among those who will live forever without dying, adding that she no longer attends church out of fear of associating with the devil, as she believes Jesus Christ will fetch her personally.
Her mother, who traveled from Tetugu in Agwata Sub-county, Dokolo District to check on her daughter, said Nancy started praying in in Pentecostal churches during her youth, but her condition worsened in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. She expressed sorrow over her daughter’s decision to fast for 10 days,
