Following her participation in the Shuttle Time Teacher Coaching Session held in Funafuti during the first-term school break, Teacher Ma'aola has taken the lead in introducing and promoting badminton on the island of Vaitupu.
Working alongside fellow educator Itaia, Ma'aola is actively advocating for the sport at Motufoua Secondary School—the country's only boarding school—as well as Tolise Primary School. Their shared vision is to establish badminton as one of the official sports contested at the Tolise–Motufoua Athletics Championship by 2027.
The initiative marks an important step in expanding badminton beyond Funafuti and creating new sporting opportunities for students on the outer islands. The ongoing development of badminton in Vaitupu will continue to receive support and guidance from the Tuvalu Badminton Federation as it works to grow participation and strengthen the sport nationwide.
