The Southern Chess Club is the oldest active chess club in Trinidad and Tobago. During its lifetime, the SCC has had some reincarnations.
It has been a cornerstone of the national chess community for decades, promoting the game, developing talent, and hosting tournaments for players of all ages. The Southern Chess Club (SCC) was formed in 1940 and is today still the only functioning Chess Club affiliated to the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association in San Fernando. As expected, the Club has shown its historic ability to host well-or
ganized tournaments The SCC's headquarters is currently situated at St. Paul’s Girls Anglican school at Pouchet Stret, San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago). Club members meet once per week at the club house at Pouchet Street in San Fernando from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. Chess players and other interested persons can simply turn up at any one of these sessions and can call us at +1 (868) 734-1007 for more information. Better yet, you can join our Club through this medium and start a life-long career of improving your capacity to concentrate. In the process of studying Chess a player improves his logical and intuitive thinking and ability to alternate his attention.
“Knowledge is Power! In fact, a Chess Grandmaster is simply a well-informed amateur.”
What do we do at meetings? We use this time to discuss issues related to the SCC, make plans and give everyone an update on the latest news and happenings of the club. Of course, no club meeting would be complete without chess-playing - and all those present are welcome to engage in a game (or several!) if they wish with fellow members and visitors.
