Meet Coach Soroya "Aunty Soy" Volney-Greene 💙🏊‍♀️

Behind every confident swimmer is someone who believes in him or her before believing in themselves. For so many of our Makos, that person is Aunty Soy.

As Co-Founder of The Mighty Makos Swim Club and Assistant Coach, Soroya brings together patience, discipline and genuine care in everything she does. An Attorney-at-Law with more than 20 years of professional experience and an ASCA Level I & II Swim Coach, she believes swimming is about far more than medals—it's about building confidence, resilience and a skill that can save lives.

Alongside Coach Ancil, she co-founded Uncle Ancil & Aunty Soy Aqua Academy, creating a welcoming environment where children can learn, grow and discover their potential in and out of the water.

Calm, encouraging and deeply invested in every child's progress, Aunty Soy creates an environment where beginners feel safe to learn, young athletes are inspired to improve, and every success is celebrated as a shared achievement.

Her belief is simple, but powerful:

"Every child deserves the confidence that comes from knowing they can swim. Water safety is not a privilege—it is a life skill that can change, and even save, lives."

Meet Coach Ancil. 💙🏊🏽

At The Mighty Makos, we believe the right coach can make all the difference—not just in how a child swims, but in the confidence they carry through life.

That's why we're proud to introduce our Founder and Head Coach, Ancil Greene.

Coach Ancil's journey is an extraordinary one. A former Trinidad and Tobago National Triathlete, seven-time National Triathlon Champion, and Special Olympics Gold and Silver Medallist, he has spent decades proving what can be achieved through determination, discipline and hard work.

Today, those same values shape every session at Mighty Makos.

For more than 20 years, Coach Ancil has worked with swimmers of all ages and abilities, helping hundreds develop strong technique, confidence in the water and, just as importantly, a genuine love for swimming.

Parents often see the medals and titles first. Our swimmers see something else.

They see the coach who patiently encourages them to try again. The coach who celebrates every milestone, no matter how small. The coach who believes in them long before they believe in themselves.

As an ASCA Level I & II Swim Coach, certified Lifeguard and Ministry of Sport Swim Instructor, Coach Ancil brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the pool. But it's his heart for developing young people that truly defines him.

His vision for The Mighty Makos has always been simple: to create an environment where every swimmer feels supported, challenged and inspired to become the very best version of themselves.
