Food waste is an urban challenge. 🍽️

Every year, an estimated 1.05 billion tonnes of food are wasted globally. Beyond what ends up in the bin, this means valuable land, water and energy are used to produce food that is never eaten, while food loss and waste contribute an estimated 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Preventing food waste can save resources, reduce emissions and support more resilient and equitable urban food systems. It can also ease pressure on municipal waste services and create opportunities for food redistribution, composting and more circular approaches in our cities and communities.

Ahead of on 20 September, it’s time to rethink what we throw away. This year, under the theme “From clean plates to clean cities,” we are going beyond cleanup to address food waste at its source and encourage action across households, businesses, communities and cities.

ในสัปดาห์นี้ โครงการ ACTIVATE Bangkok จัดการประชุมเชิงเทคนิค (Technical Roundtable) ในหัวข้อ การบูรณาการระบบขนส่งสาธารณะและการพัฒนาพื้นที่โดยรอบสถานีขนส่งมวลชน (Transit-Oriented Development: TOD) โดยมีหน่วยงานภาครัฐ ผู้ให้บริการด้านการขนส่ง และภาคีด้านเทคนิคร่วมกันแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็น เพื่อหาแนวทางแก้ไขที่สามารถนำไปปฏิบัติได้จริง

การหารือมุ่งเน้น 5 ประเด็นสำคัญ ได้แก่ การเพิ่มการใช้บริการขนส่งสาธารณะ การปรับปรุงพื้นที่โดยรอบสถานี การบูรณาการระบบขนส่งรูปแบบต่าง ๆ การส่งเสริมการเดินทางที่มีความเท่าเทียมและครอบคลุมสำหรับทุกคน และการผลักดันแนวคิด TOD ให้เกิดขึ้นจริง

โดยมุ่งเน้นพื้นที่ พระราม 9 และศูนย์วัฒนธรรมแห่งประเทศไทย ผู้เข้าร่วมได้ร่วมกันสำรวจแนวทางการเชื่อมโยงระบบรถไฟ รถโดยสาร การเดินทางร่วม การเดิน และการใช้จักรยานให้ดียิ่งขึ้น เพื่อให้การเดินทางในชีวิตประจำวัน สะดวก ปลอดภัย และเข้าถึงได้มากขึ้นสำหรับทุกคน

ผลจากการหารือจะช่วยกำหนดทิศทางของ แผนแม่บทเชิงแนวคิดพื้นที่พระราม 9 (Rama 9 Conceptual Master Plan), แผนที่นำทางการพัฒนา TOD ของกรุงเทพมหานคร (Bangkok TOD Roadmap) และแนวทางการออกแบบ TOD (TOD Design Guidelines) พร้อมทั้งระบุแนวทางดำเนินงานที่เป็นรูปธรรม หน่วยงานที่รับผิดชอบ โอกาสในการดำเนินการที่เห็นผลได้ในระยะสั้น และโอกาสสำหรับการลงทุนในระยะยาว

ผ่าน โครงการ ACTIVATE Bangkok UN-Habitat, ICLEI-South Asia และ สถาบันสิ่งแวดล้อมไทย - TEI ร่วมกันขับเคลื่อนกรุงเทพฯ สู่เมืองที่ กระชับ เชื่อมโยง และมีความยืดหยุ่นต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศมากยิ่งขึ้น 🌱🏙️

How can Bangkok make public transport more connected, accessible and inclusive, while creating better places around transit stations? 🏙️🚶‍♀️🚲

This week, the ACTIVATE Bangkok Project held a Technical Roundtable on Public Transport Integration and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) bringing together government agencies, transport providers and technical partners to explore practical solutions.

The discussions focused on five key areas: increasing public transport use, improving station areas, integrating different modes of transport, advancing more equitable and inclusive mobility, and turning TOD into action.

With a focus on Rama 9 and Thailand Cultural Centre, participants explored how better connections between rail, buses, shared mobility, walking and cycling can make everyday journeys easier, safer and more accessible for everyone.

The outcomes will help shape the Rama 9 Conceptual Master Plan, Bangkok TOD Roadmap and TOD Design Guidelines, while identifying concrete actions, responsible agencies and opportunities for quick wins and longer-term investment.

Through ACTIVATE Bangkok Project, UN-Habitat, ICLEI and TEI are working towards a more compact, connected and climate-resilient Bangkok. 🌱🏙️

UN-Habitat ร่วมกับสหประชาชาติประจำประเทศไทยในงาน Social Development Expo (SDX) 2026 ณ กรุงเทพมหานคร เพื่อยืนยันความร่วมมือระหว่าง UN-Habitat และรัฐบาลไทยในการส่งเสริมการพัฒนาสังคมที่ครอบคลุมและยั่งยืน

งาน จัดโดยกระทรวงการพัฒนาสังคมและความมั่นคงของมนุษย์ โดยรวบรวมหน่วยงานภาครัฐ ภาคประชาสังคม ภาคเอกชน และองค์กรระหว่างประเทศ เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้และร่วมกันพัฒนาแนวทางรับมือกับความท้าทายด้านสังคมที่กำลังเปลี่ยนแปลงของประเทศไทย

ระหว่างวันที่ 21–23 สิงหาคม UN-Habitat ได้นำเสนอแนวทางและโครงการต่าง ๆ ภายในประเทศไทยที่มุ่งส่งเสริมการพัฒนา เมืองและชุมชนที่ครอบคลุม ปลอดภัย ยืดหยุ่น และยั่งยืน เพื่อให้ทุกคนสามารถมีส่วนร่วมและได้รับประโยชน์จากการพัฒนาเมืองอย่างเท่าเทียมกัน

UN-Habitat joined the UN Country Team at the Social Development Expo (SDX) 2026 in Bangkok, reaffirming the UN-Habitat’s partnership with the Royal Thai Government to advance inclusive and sustainable social development.

Hosted by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, brought together government, civil society, the private sector and international partners to share knowledge and develop solutions to Thailand’s evolving social challenges.

From 21–23 August, UN-Habitat highlighted initiatives in Thailand linked to building inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities.

Food is an urban issue. 🌱🏙️
How can cities across ASEAN build more resilient food systems?
At the ASEAN Capitals Urban Food Management Forum in Bangkok, cities, international organisations and partners explored practical solutions, from urban agriculture and food waste valorisation to multifunctional green spaces and stronger urban–rural connections.
“Community gardens, urban agriculture and local food initiatives need to be treated as legitimate parts of the urban system, not temporary uses of land.” 💬- UN-Habitat highlighted
The Forum concluded with the Bangkok Joint Statement on Urban Food Resilience, strengthening regional cooperation to turn these ideas into action.
