Matsapha City FC announces that dynamic left winger 𝚂𝚒𝚌𝚎𝚕𝚘 𝙼𝚊𝚖𝚋𝚊 has decided to retire from professional football.

Sicelo arrived at The Citizens ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign from 𝐌𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬 FC. In a single season he etched his name into our story — a tireless wide man with a wand of a left foot who played a pivotal role in securing yet another Top 5 finish in the KPL.

That result marks our third consecutive Top 5 finish since our elevation to the league in 2023, a testament to the culture and character players like 𝐒𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨 brought to the badge.

Beyond the numbers, Sicelo embodied commitment, creativity, and unwavering love for the crest. He hugged the touchline, delivered in the final third, and left everything on the pitch for 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬.

Subject to mutual agreement, we are delighted that Sicelo will transition to our Technical Team for the 2026/2027 season. His experience, footballing intelligence, and understanding of our philosophy will be invaluable as we continue to build.

To 𝐒𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨: Thank you for the service, the sacrifice, and the memories.

The proverbial whistle has blown.

With the 2026/2027 𝐊𝐏𝐋 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 looming on the horizon, 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐅𝐂 has officially entered pre-season mode. Head coach 𝑻𝒉𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒊 𝑺𝒊𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒛𝒆 has galvanized his troops, with the first training session already underway this 𝑻𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚, 04 August 2026.

The Citizens will now be putting in the yards from 𝑻𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚 to 𝑭𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚 at their Mahlabatsini fortress as they look to lay the foundations for a formidable campaign.

Addressing a buoyant turnout of supporters and players, Sibandze expressed his gratitude and set the tone for the season ahead.

"I must commend all the citizens who graced us with their presence today," he stated. "Your unwavering support is the 12th man we need. To those yet to join us, the technical bench extends a clarion call."

In a significant development, the gaffer threw the doors wide open for fresh talent.

"This serves as an open invitation to all aspiring footballers," 𝑺𝒊𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒛𝒆 asserted. "Any player who harbors the ambition to don the blue and white and be part of the Matsapha City project for the imminent season and beyond, present yourselves for assessment. We are scouting for quality, for character, for players who can add value to our squad."

Training sessions will commence promptly at 16:30𝑯𝑹𝑺 every training day.

With competition for places set to be fierce and the gaffer intent on assembling a squad capable of challenging for silverware, one thing is certain: there will be no passengers on this journey.

𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴: 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒔𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒂 𝑪𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑭𝑪 1️⃣-3️⃣ 𝑼𝑵𝑬𝑺𝑾𝑨

Matsapha City FC’s campaign in the Kwaluseni Inkhundla Mid-Year Football Festival came to an end yesterday following a 3-1 defeat to UNESWA FC.

We got off to the perfect start. 𝑺𝒊𝒃𝒂𝒉𝒍𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒍𝒂 opened the scoring early with a clinical strike, giving us the lead and early momentum. For a period, we looked sharp and in control.

However, the second half told a different story. UNESWA FC demonstrated remarkable resilience and composure. They capitalized on the fatigue that began to show in our ranks and converted their dominance into goals, netting three times amidst a flurry of chances they created.

Despite our best efforts to regroup, the university side’s fitness and depth ultimately proved decisive.

We thank the Kwaluseni community for the warm reception and the fans who came out to support us. Congratulations to UNESWA FC and all the best in the next round.
