✧ How can yoga asana help avoid falls, and stay independent as we age?

✧ One of the main risk for falls is age. Seniors, and kids are the main groups exposed to the risk of falls.

✧ In this post I am highlighting the benefits of yoga therapy for the people over 40 years old.

✧ The risk of falls increases considerably starting with 65 years old.

✧ Even though for some of us 65 years old seems far away, that does not mean we are not at risk. Moreover, if you are more than 40 yrs it is very important to stay active, and maintain your muscle mass. The current evidence-based approach recommended for loss of muscle mass is resistance training (weights, resistance bands, or bodyweight exercises like squats and push-ups).

✧ Yoga therapy is a personalized practice of movement, breathing, relaxation, and reflection. Being a practice adapted to an individual, that means that the focus can be agreed together, based on that persons’s medical history, physical strength, energy level, and life context.

✧ In the slides you can find the main areas in which yoga therapy can support a balanced aging, and prevent falls.

Note: The purpose of this post is for learning, and not for self-diagnosis or treatment. Yoga practices should not replace specialized medical guidance and/or treatment.

✧ Ending this week with thankfulness to the people who offered their trust, and time to experience yoga therapy.

✧ Each time it amazes me when I see how movement, breathing, and relaxation can make such a good impact on somebody’s life.

✧ Grateful for the learning, and support from the The Yoga Therapy Institute too!

✧ You can benefit from this type of yoga if you struggle with constant exhaustion, brain fog, anxiety, poor sleep, high blood pressure, and poor digestion. I have 3 more spots that I offer for free (7 sessions per person)! Send me a message if you are interested, and we can agree together on the day, and time.

🌊 Place a hand on your chest, and the other on the abdomen. Feel the flow of your breath, and the movement it creates in your body.

✧ Regular yoga practice can support insulin sensitivity. When insulin sensitivity is high, cells respond effectively to insulin, allowing glucose to enter the body cells and be used for energy.

✧ See more details in the slides, and let me know what you think.

✧ If you want to experience yoga therapy, know that while I finalize my studies I offer the first 7 sessions for free. You can benefit from this type of yoga if you struggle with constant tiredness, anxiety, poor sleep, high blood pressure, chronic stress, and poor digestion. Send me a message if you are interested. I have availability at the start of September.

✧ May was the month of flowers.

I continued to cultivate presence through noticing what brings me joy, wonder, and connection.

Yes, there are moments that are hard, but as well there are moments in which I find hope, and strength again.

✧ Yoga therapy practice classes were ongoing. I am grateful, and happy about bringing movement, trust in their bodies, and relaxation into peoples’ lives.

✧ While I finalize my studies I offer the first 7 sessions for free. You can benefit from this type of yoga if you struggle with constant tiredness, anxiety, poor sleep, high blood pressure, and poor digestion. Send me a message if you are interested. ✧ A moment of presence can slow down your actions, and take more intentional steps forward.

✧ What does yoga means to me?

✧ Some of the yoga practices, and philosophy are like an anchor to me.

Anchor for keeping me grounded in my body.

Anchor for keeping me grounded to support my family.

Anchor for keeping me grounded in my inner life.

Anchor for keeping me grounded in the day to day life.

✧ I love learning and feeling about how, and if certain yoga practices influence my biology, and perceptions.

Movement influences all the body systems.

Breath influences all the body systems.

Relaxation influences all the body systems.

Journaling influences all the body systems.

Life view, and philosophy on life influence all the body systems.

It is complex, and not black and white, but overall, yoga practices supported me in building more mental resilience, creating more strength in the physical body, and in connecting me with so many people.

Grateful 💛

Happy International Yoga Day, and Summer Solstice! 🌻

✧ Back in March I posted five less popular reasons to practice yoga. Let’s go into more details about each one of them.

✧ Today is about how yoga asana and pranayama supports the lymphatic system.

✧ The lymphatic system is one of the immune system parts, along with the spleen, thymus gland, tonsils, and adenoids.

✧ The lymph contains a high number of a type of white blood cells called lymphocytes. These cells remove waste like bacteria, toxins, viruses, or abnormal cells.

✧ The lymphatic system does not work using a central pumping mechanism. The lymph is moved forward by the skeletal muscles action, movement created during breathing, and contraction of smooth muscles in the walls of lymphatic vessels.

✧ The best exercises for lymphatic flow involve a combination of movement and deep breathing, including low-impact cardio, stretching and specific decongestive exercises.

✧ Yoga asana, and functional breathing practices are a great way to get your body, and lymph moving. Along with a healthy diet, sleep, and hydration, it supports your health and well-being. 💛

✧ Sunday comes with a quiet message saying something like “a new week is coming, what do I plan to do with my time”, or with a quiet pressure to do, achieve, strive, plan. In an ideal situation, this kind of pressure is good, because it mobilizes my energy towards what I must, or need to do. However, over the course of time this kind of repeated pressure wears me down.

✧ This Sunday, I look back on the week that just passed, and I see that I did enough. Sometimes I decide more consciously what enough is, and most of the time my history decides what enough is. And it is normal to be that way, I “practiced” all my adult life to do more, and that taxed my body systems and mind.
