Read that again.
Because in a world obsessed with what has already happened and anxious about what comes next - this one sentence cuts through everything.
We spend so much of our lives looking backwards or forwards.
Replaying the past. Rehearsing the future.
Carrying yesterday's mistakes into tomorrow's decisions.
And in doing so - we walk straight past the most extraordinary resource available to us.
The one that was always there.
The one that lives within.
Here is what the research consistently tells us about the most effective leaders, coaches and human beings:
The single greatest predictor of sustained performance, meaningful impact and genuine fulfilment is not experience, not qualifications and not circumstance.
It is self-awareness.
The ability to know what drives you. What limits you. What you are capable of when you stop getting in your own way.
Every single person carries within them a depth of creativity, resourcefulness and wholeness that most of the world - and most of the time, they themselves - never fully see or realise.
Which means something extraordinary can begin to emerge!
This is why we do what we do at Empower World.
Create the conditions for people to discover what was always there - waiting quietly to be seen, heard and expressed.
Because the greatest journey any leader, coach or human being can take is not outward.
It is inward.
And what lies within - when we finally trust it - changes everything!
What is one thing you have discovered within yourself that surprised you - and what became possible because of it?
We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Are you trying too hard to help your clients?
It is a trap many coaches fall into.
We want to ask the perfect question, offer the right insight, or help our clients find the answer. But in doing so, we can unintentionally take responsibility for their journey instead of trusting their ability to navigate it themselves.
And yet - as Marie Quigley reflects - the fear of staying present is real:
"This is what stops some coaches from staying in the role of a coach - when they believe that this person can't handle it, they might cry, or it might be too revealing. They might say something they don't want to say."
What if the most powerful thing you could do as a coach is simply trust your client more?
In this episode 258 of the Empower World Coaching and Leadership Podcast, hosts Bailey and Quigley reflect on one of the most powerful - yet often not fully embodied - coaching principles: our coaching partners are naturally creative, resourceful and whole.
Jeanine shares how early in her coaching journey, she understood this principle intellectually but had not fully embodied it until one powerful coaching conversation completely shifted her perspective.
"Hold the space. Believe that your clients are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. And let them do the work."
That insight transformed not only the way she coached, but the freedom she experienced as a coach.
And when coaches do hold that space - when they resist the urge to rescue and instead stay present - something profound becomes possible. As Jeanine describes:
"Emotions are our compass. They let us know whether we're on track or off track. There's no such thing as a good or bad emotion. There's just emotions that let us know if we're living according to our values."
Trusting a client to feel, process and navigate their emotions is not a passive act. It is one of the most skilled and courageous things a coach can do.
And the extraordinary truth? As Marie reminds us: "It's interesting how the client, even in that state, still knows the best answer for them. Sometimes they just need somebody to be able to mirror it back to them."
In this episode, Jeanine and Marie explore:
● Why trusting your clients creates deeper transformation
● How emotions can provide valuable direction during coaching conversations
● The importance of clear contracting
● How to recognise when a client may benefit from therapy rather than coaching
● Why doing your own inner work makes you a more effective coach
If you are a coach, leader or someone passionate about helping others grow, this conversation offers practical insights that can change the way you listen, coach and lead.

This surprises many people.
Some of our participants never intend to build a coaching business.
They join because they want to become...
• Better leaders.
• Better managers.
• Better parents.
• Better educators.
• Better communicators.
Because coaching isn't simply a profession.
It's a way of having conversations that bring out the best in people.
We've watched participants use these skills in boardrooms.
In classrooms.
At home with their children.
Within their teams.
And often...
The first person whose life changes is their own.
Perhaps that's why one of our graduates said:
"It's a gift you give yourself before you give it to anyone else."
Who in your life could benefit if you became a better listener?

The words your client chooses may be telling a far bigger story than you realise.
When a client says "I'm carrying the weight of the world" or "I'm spinning my wheels" - do you hear a figure of speech?
Or do you hear an invitation?
Most coaches move past these moments without realising what they contain. Because hidden inside the language your client naturally reaches for is often the very thing they most need to explore - a belief, a pattern, an emotion they have not yet found the words to name directly.
Metaphors are not decoration. They are data.
And when a coach learns to truly hear them - something shifts. Conversations go deeper. Insights arrive faster. Clients discover things about themselves they did not know were there.
Join Empower World's next Book Club as we welcome Lyssa deHart MCC - author of four coaching books including Light Up: The Science of Coaching with Metaphors - for what promises to be one of the most practically rich conversations we have hosted.
Together we will explore how coaches can use metaphor to:
● Listen more deeply and recognise the meaning beneath the words
● Spark fresh insights and open up new possibilities for your client
● Deepen client self-awareness and accelerate their discovery
● Show up with even greater presence, confidence and impact
Whether you are an experienced coach working toward your next credential, developing your coaching skills, or simply passionate about what becomes possible in a truly deep coaching conversation - this session is for you.
No preparation needed. No book required. Just bring your curiosity, your questions, and your love of great coaching conversations.

Have you ever noticed that the people who make the greatest impact on our lives rarely tell us what to do?
Instead...
They ask the question we hadn't thought to ask ourselves.
As leaders, it's easy to believe our role is to solve problems.
To provide direction.
To have the answers.
But what if our greatest contribution wasn't providing answers at all?
What if it was helping others discover their own?
When people arrive at their own insights, something remarkable happens.
They don't just solve today's challenge.
They build the confidence to solve tomorrow's.
That's what coaching develops.
Not dependence.
Capability.
Not followers.
More leaders.
What question could you ask today instead of offering advice?

Your client isn't stuck because they don't know what to do.
They're stuck because their body doesn't yet feel safe enough to do it.
Many coaching conversations stay at the level of thinking. We explore beliefs, goals, and action plans, yet the real breakthrough never comes.
Why?
Because the body often reveals what words cannot.
A pause.
A tight chest.
A change in posture.
A deep breath.
These aren't distractions. They're valuable data.
When coaches develop the presence to notice the whole human being, not just the conversation, they create deeper trust, greater psychological safety, and more lasting transformation.
Our latest newsletter explores how somatic awareness can help you coach beyond words and unlock deeper change.
What has your client's body taught you that their words didn't?

If that is true - and we believe it is - then the question every leader must ask themselves is not "how do I get better results?"
It is "how do I take better care of the people who create those results?"
This is where coaching changes everything.
When a leader coaches rather than directs, something shifts in the room. People stop waiting to be told what to do. They start thinking for themselves. They bring ideas forward. They take ownership. They show up differently - not because they have been managed into it, but because someone finally asked them what they think.
That is the relational shift.
And it is profound.
Because when people feel genuinely heard, seen and trusted - when they experience a leader who is curious about them rather than just their output - they do not just perform better. They belong more deeply, they stay longer, they give more of themselves, they become the kind of colleagues and team members who lift everyone around them.
That is not soft. That is strategy.
Because here is what the research tells us:
📊 Organisations with strong coaching cultures report higher employee engagement
📊 Teams led by coaching leaders demonstrate greater innovation and adaptability
📊 Leaders who coach see measurably lower turnover - and the cost of replacing one employee can be up to 200% of their annual salary
📊 Coaching has been shown to deliver an average ROI of 5.7 times the initial investment - and in some studies, significantly more
The relational and the commercial are not opposites. They are the same thing, seen from different angles.
When you take care of the people in your charge - truly, skillfully, with coaching at the heart of how you lead - the results follow. Not because you chased them. Because you created the conditions for them to flourish.
How are you taking care of the people in your charge today?
