🛡️🥋 Safe Sport Day – Because Every Day Should Be a Safe Sport Day

On 8 August, the global sport community marked Safe Sport Day, an important reminder that everyone should be able to experience sport in an environment where they feel safe, respected and protected.

For SAFE COMBAT, this commitment goes far beyond a single day.

Combat Sports & Martial Arts have the power to educate, empower and transform lives. But this can only happen when safeguarding, wellbeing and respect are embedded into everyday practice.

Through research, the SAFE COMBAT Safeguarding Code, our MOOC, the SAFE COMBAT Label and practical resources for clubs and organisations, we are working to turn safeguarding principles into concrete action across Europe. 🛡️🤝

Safe Sport Day may have passed, but the responsibility remains with all of us — federations, clubs, coaches, officials, volunteers and participants — every day of the year.

🛡️ SAFE COMBAT at the FEPSAC Congress 2026

The SAFE COMBAT project was represented at the 18th FEPSAC European Congress of Sport and Exercise Psychology, held in Timișoara, Romania, from 13–17 July 2026. The congress brought together researchers, practitioners and professionals from across Europe to exchange knowledge on the latest developments in sport and exercise psychology.

As part of the project's dissemination activities, Thomas More University of Applied Sciences presented the SAFE COMBAT research, showcasing the evidence-based methodology used to develop the project's Safeguarding Code for Combat Sports & Martial Arts. The research combined:
📚 A comprehensive literature review
🗣️ Focus groups with athletes, coaches and safeguarding experts
📊 A cross-national survey gathering perspectives from across Europe

Presenting these findings at FEPSAC provided an excellent opportunity to share knowledge, receive valuable feedback from the scientific community and contribute to the ongoing discussion on strengthening safeguarding across Combat Sports & Martial Arts.

Together, we continue working towards safer, more inclusive and participant-centred sport environments.

🥋🛡️ SAFE COMBAT Multiplier Sport Event held during the XX International Training Camp of the Associação Distrital de Judo de Santarém

As part of the XX International Training Camp of the Associação Distrital de Judo de Santarém, Sport Evolution Alliance successfully organised a SAFE COMBAT Multiplier Sport Event, bringing together 12 judo coaches from Portugal, Japan, Cuba and Spain.

The session introduced participants to the SAFE COMBAT project and its practical safeguarding resources, including the Safeguarding Code, the SAFE COMBAT MOOC and the SAFE COMBAT Label, while promoting discussion on participant protection and safer sport environments.

🤝 Bringing together coaches from different countries created an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and reinforce the shared responsibility of making combat sports safer for everyone.

Together, we continue building a culture where safety, wellbeing and respect are at the heart of every combat sport organisation. 🛡️

🛡️🥋 More than 100 participants from Portugal and Brazil joined the SAFE COMBAT Multiplier Sport Event on Participant Protection in Combat Sports & Martial Arts!

Organised by Sport Evolution Alliance as part of the SAFE COMBAT project, this online event brought together coaches, club representatives and sport professionals committed to creating safer, more inclusive and ethically responsible environments in combat sports.

Participants explored key safeguarding principles and discovered the practical resources developed through the SAFE COMBAT project, including the Safeguarding Code, the SAFE COMBAT MOOC and the SAFE COMBAT Label—tools designed to help clubs and organisations strengthen participant protection and embed safeguarding into everyday practice.

The strong engagement and exchange of experiences throughout the session demonstrated the growing commitment of the combat sport community to making safeguarding a priority.
