Lisbon is having a bit of a creative overdose this week. Lisbon Design Week alone brings together over 150 makers across the city. From Luca Resta’s mysterious sci-fi-meets-archaeology universe at La Junqueira, to Ach. Brito transforming a hidden chapel into an olfactory time machine.
Meanwhile Fahrenheit.works is creating elegant azulejos from recycled oyster shells because apparently even oysters get a second creative life in Lisbon. Vasco Fragoso Mendes keeps blurring the line between sculpture, craft and design. And Lisbon by Design at Palacete Gomes Freire is even bigger and better than last year’s edition, with more rooms, more works and now even the garden open.
Check it all out this weekend. Lisbon isn’t just photogenic. It’s a city of makers.

ME Lisbon just opened its doors; and yes, it’s another hotel, but not like that. It radiates an energy this city needs. Portuguese art, craft and design, a rooftop pool bar with ridiculous views, a spa called KORPO that I walked out of a different person, and Fismuler downstairs doing exactly what a free-spirited, artisanal restaurant should do. But Joana Astolfi’s pop-up “Everything I Couldn’t Leave Behind” is the real reason to go: tactile, theatrical, slightly melancholic, half dream, half décor, with a quietly undercooled humour running underneath it all. World class, without the attitude✨
